Filled with fine wood work from past Bar Harbor "cottages", the inn is one of the village's original B&B's, and best described as a gentleman's retreat, and a very cool place to spend your holiday. The inn's in town location is ideal for those who like to leave the car behind. The Gothic guest rooms come with special treats like turrets, stain glass, roof windows, fire places, private porches, spiral staircases, and magnificent bed mantles. Unique for small inns in the village is the Friar's Pub. Entertain, meet some locals, and nourish yourself in the pub with nightly lite fare. Enjoy the inn's roof deck with a beverage from the pub. Relax in the classic living room or retreat to the mysterious Groto for a game. Step into the Friar and step into Medieval times.

28 year old male with a luxury budget, traveling for leisure
The Black Friar Inn is the ideal place to stay if you plan on visiting Bar Harbor. It is located within the town, so everything is only a short walk away (3-5 minutes to Main St.). The Inn itself is clean, and the owners are both friendly and knowledgable. They can provide you with abundant information about local places to eat and see, as well as local activities for the active vacationer (suggestions on hiking trails, kayaking tours, etc.).
My wife and I have stayed at the Black Friar repeatedly and have always enjoyed our stay with Perry & Sharon (the owners). They have rooms of various rates for various budgets, and the breakfasts are out of this world. Whether you're planning a weekend get-away for the foliage season, or an active summer vacation, I strongly recommend staying at the Black Friar.

My husband and I chose the Black Friar Inn because it was a nice, quiet, and private bed & breafast and because we didn't want to stay at any of the chain hotels. The inn was located within walking distance to the city center, the breakfasts were unbelievable, and the rooms were clean. We would definitely stay there again if we visited Bar Harbor again in the future.
