I can tell you I searched many places to stay in the keys. This place is by far the most affordable throughout all the islands, larger rooms than most. The drive to Key West is no more that 20 minutes and our fishing charter was right out of Big Pine. Dive shops are a few blocks away as well.
In regards to pricing: if you plan on diving, fishing or even just site seeing this motel is your best bang for your buck. My rate at this motel was $79 while everywhere else was over $110. Other motels and hotels all the way down to Key West they won't let you bring in your dive gear nor have efficiencies.
The restaurant literally right across the street is AWESOME! Their fresh seafood is to die for not to mention they will cook up your catch of the day.
I've read a few more post about this place here on tripadvisor and was shocked at some of them. Some people are just completely unreasonable I guess. When you visit the keys you have to remember that your on a chain of very small islands (Keywest is only 90 miles aways from Cuba). You will see all kinds of delightful creatures down there, including crabs running across the parking lot and gators crossing the roads. If you not staying at the Hilton in Keywest, your more than likely to encounter a few island critters. I even saw a dang Peacock one of my morning walks while staying here.
The room I stayed in was clean and the hot water and water pressure was great!
I hope this was helpful in your Florida Keys en devour.
