As a seasoned business traveler, I have spent as many as 150 nights in a single year in hotels around the world. My recent stay at the Best Western of Lake George was one of my worst experiences ever.
I booked a suite with the intention of a relaxing weekend with my wife and two small children. The suite was badly outdated, with dirty, worn carpeting and large sections of wallpaper peeling from the walls.
The real problem started at approximately 10:00 pm when a group of young people began to gather outside the suite adjoining mine. (The suites can be accessed directly from the parking area, without passing through security.)
The party was loud and continuous, with as many as 10 people at any time.
Three separate phone calls to the front desk did nothing to break up the gathering. At 12:00 am I was rudely told by the night manager that the party was "under control" and that there was nothing else that he could or would do. At 1:30 am, my wife and children and I were all awake and could not take anymore. I proceeded to load everything into my vehicle and went to the front desk to check out. When I insisted on a full refund of my money, I was told that would not be possible, but I could move to another nearby hotel, I told him he should feel free to move the offending party, that I would not be taking his offer of a different room. I left the property.
The next day I spoke to the general manager by phone, although he did refund the full price of the room, there was absolutely no apology offered for what my family went through. He felt that the offer to relocate was a very generous one, and he could not understand why I did not accept.
Bottom line, in my opinion this is not the family friendly property that they would like you to believe.
