The location is excellent - right on the beach and near many nice restaurants. I especially liked the fact that they are sensitive to families. All of us, mom and dad and three boys 11, 10 and 2 were able to stay in one room with two large beds quite comfortably. Shall I say that this helped our budget since we did not have to rent two rooms? Clean, good service. We tried to watch a movie on their pay-per-view channel but the tape was damaged. They refunded us immediately as I explained the issue. We also used the safe and they were supposed to charge us $1.50 a day but didn't. On the downside - we had to pay an extra $10 a day for parking. I was a bit annoyed that they could not swallow up the parking cost for their customers who would drive to the location. The pool and hot tub are located close to most rooms. The only issue was that the hot tub was quite popular and all five of us could get in together only early in the morning without joining another party.
There are grocery stores 1.5 and 5 min walk from the hotel. As for restaurants: we all would enthusiastically recommend Joe's Crab Shack - only about 3-4 minutes walk north. They had top-notch sea food at very good prices, and friendly service.
The unpleasant thing about the beach was, and this is no way the hotel's issue, that the strip right in front of the hotel was reserved for surfers. We had to walk about 2 min north to get to the swimmers' beach. The other issue was that there were a lot of college kids drinking at night and if you'd go for an afternoon swim you might come across some intoxicated and excited young people. This was not the best environment for families beach hang outs but at no time did we feel unsafe or harassed in any way. Maybe I'm just too old or too religious to appreciate this kind of expression of fun. O, and conveniently they had the Gideon's Bible in their night stand drawer which is always an excellent "amenity."
Will stay at the Blue Sea Lodge again. Would recommend to anyone.
