When we chose this hotel we chose it because on the website, it said we would be overlooking the ocean nestled in a redwood forest. Not! You couldn't even see the ocean or the redwoods, we were in a downtown area surrounded by dollar trees and other economy hotels. There seems to be a large hoeless population in this town too. It also said there were many fine eating esablishment around which was also a fib. There was a Carls Junior across the street so I guess that counts, we even asked the clerk about places to eat and he said the one on the corner is ok if ya like that kind food. It cost quite a bit to stay here too (we thought we were paying for an ocean veiw). We booked over 6 months in advance and the room they gave us was in the process of being remodeled with a torn apart ceiling in the bathroom.
They really need to change the description on their web site, it's very misleading as far as we could see there wasn't even ocean access in Arcata, only farmland, and the redwoods were off in the very far distance. Live and learn I guess!
