The Beresford Hotel is really good value considering it's location in the city. Union Square is 2 blocks away and everything is within walking distance. The room I was given was a little in the small side but was extremely clean and would serve the purpose of somewhere to sleep after a days sight seeing. The Beresford offers a complimentary breakfast each morning which is a nice touch and the staff go out of their way to be friendly. All in all I found this hotel to be perfect for people looking for a clean, fairly simple but great value hotel in the centre of the city.

My recent trip to the States was ruined by spending 5 nights (for which I paid close to $US1000) at the Beresford for the following reasons:
(1) I was eaten alive by bed bugs. My body is covered in large, flammed bites which are incredibly itchy and sore and which were caused by the bed bugs at this hotel. Since arriving home I have been prescribed two courses of antibiotics to deal with the infection caused by their bed bugs and have had to take time off work.
On top of this:
(2) They asked me for cash before they would call me a taxi from the foyer.
(3) They refused to provide me with another blanket which I needed because my room was so cold.

** Staffs are very unfriendly - one staff keeps talking on phone with a friend while I was waiting. ** They don't have any air-condition or wireless internet ( One computer for may be 100 hotel guest, I don't say that free internet). I can go to a cafe and get free wireless with a purchase of coffee. I don't know why this hotel can't provide free wireless for their guest.
** No coffee-maker in the room or at the lobby. I woke up little late one day during my stay and went down to lobby for a coffee. the guy at the counter said - " we close our coffee service at 10:00 am"

Good
This was my very favorite place to stay when I used to go to San Francisco regularly. It's a small, intimate, and charming hotel that is very reasonably priced compared to other larger hotels there. It has a nice spot adjacent to it-The White Horse ...

The staff was friendly and the room was clean. They had free internet and the hotel was a great value for the location. It was nothing extravagant, but it is perfect for those who are there to experience the city and not hang out at their hotel.
The front desk staff was friendly and informative whenever questions were asked.
I am very likely
to return to the Beresford Hotel.
I would definitely recommend it to friends.

As it's a budget hotel, you get what you pay for.The staff are friendly especially Vincent and Mandy. The rooms are very small and the bathroom was tiny. My room was facing onto the street and i didn't hear too much noise. The white Horse bar is part of the hotel and you go there for a free continental breakfast and you can have dinner there too at a reasonable price. The beresford is not too far away from the heart of Union Square, about 5 minutes walk. I also felt safe as i was on my own although there are a lot of homeless/beggars around. Overall i enjoyed my stay and would consider going back.
stayed at the beresford and felt very safe in the neighbourhood as i was on my own.The only downside with the area was the countless homeless/beggars looking for money. The hotel room was small and the bathroom was tiny.Depending which room you are...

Front desk check in is good in the afternoons (friendly staff), but when the shift changes to the morning, the clerk is curt. When I phoned there with questions prior to arriving, he told me to call back because they were too busy. The building is a converted apartment dwelling with the kitchens removed, probably built in the 30s or 40s. It smells sour and musty because it's so old. The room was clean. Nice continental breakfast in the mornings. It has an internet room if you need a computer. The location is good, as it's just a few blocks from the heart of the City--Union Square. Good shopping there!
This is a cute little hotel. I liked it the moment i step in the door. I didn't have a reservation but they took care of me right away. The room was perfect for an overnite stay. My only complaint would be that they did not have an internet...
My room was near the restaurant in the hotel. People talking and laughing loudly at 11.35 pm caused disturbance. Besides, there was no hair-drier and the toilet flushing sound in other rooms was too loud.
