I should have checked Trip Advisor and not relied on one of the more recent reviews here, but I wanted to find something at the last minute and spend what we usually spend, which is $55 a night at the Halcyon House, which is closer to Mass St. Halc

Nice exterior, pleasant staff but understaffed: desk clerk was cleaning rooms during check-out. The rear door does not lock so anyone could come and go at will. The bathroom ceiling was moldy from an apparent toilet problem on the floor above. This...

We have stayed in this hotel numerous times. It has been clean each time, with consistently friendly staff. The amenities are basic, but then so is the price. If you're looking for an economical place to stay without lots of frills, this is a good bet. There is a pool, hot tub, and continental breakfast, just not all the razzle-dazzle of a Marriott.

Supposedly, this hotel was recently renovated. Unfortunately, it's one of those hotels where you're afraid to take off your shoes. The carpet and bedding were stained. The air conditioner was extremely noisy and gave off a damp smell. The hallways, stairways, and elevator needed to be cleaned and smelled of food.
There are other cleaner and better maintained places to stay in Lawrence.
