Our family had a great visit at Bayberry Inn this past week! I am in
the hotel business and have experienced almost all there is to imagine
from a product and customer service perspective - Karen, the
Innkeeper, we always found to be gracious and very pleasant (even when
we had to ring the doorbell after 11pm one night when we forgot our
keys!). The Inn itself dated back to the 1830's (when according to
Karen, it was built by a sea-captain named Charles Hunter). Beautiful
original parquet-flooring in the HUGE dining room along with a
gorgeous hand-carved mahogany mantle had the captains initials "CH"
carved right into the top. Old, but nicely updated with modern
conveniences in the private baths and bedding along with internet
which was essential for me keeping in-touch with work. The property
was very well maintained.
Our guestroom was large and well-appointed with beautiful wood floors
that looked like they had recently been refinished. The private bath
was fully updated and featured a jacuzzi-style tub and shower. The
Innkeeper, Karen, again was very helpful with suggestions and
directions to the local points of interest. The Cliff-walk was not to
be missed, and taking the kids on the Newport Ghost Tour (walking of
course), was something unique that we never would have known about if
not for Karen's suggestion. We were able to walk the Tennis Hall of
Fame which was an added plus being in town during the tournament this
past week!
Even breakfast turned out to be great, with fresh baked bread,
cranberry muffins (made with local cranberries from nearby Cape
Cod??), and waffles that both us and kids filled up on. The yogurt
parfait was a nice healthy alternative that I opted for later in the
week! We never made it back for afternoon tea, but are certain it
featured more of the same tasty bakeries Karen served for breakfast.
All in all, we really enjoyed our stay and recommend it highly to
anyone visiting Newport - even with kids...
We'll be back!
