The Atlantic Ocean always provides a breath-taking display whether its a lazy summer afternoon with salty breezes and softly lapping waves or a fierce north wind blows up huge waves to crash against the rocks. Perched on the rocky coastline of Cape Ann, these are the unspoiled views from the Bass Rocks Ocean Inn. With every room facing the ocean, enjoy the panorama that stretches from Bass Rocks, to Good Harbor Beach and Salt Island, to Long Beach and the Twin Lights of Thatchers Island, and the open Atlantic Ocean. Listed in the National Registry of Historic Places, the George O. Stacy House, accented with 19th century antiques, will be a nucleus of activity for your stay. Breakfast is served on the sunporch from our bountiful complimentary, cold buffet table. During the day or evening you can relax in our living room, enjoy your favorite video, and partake of our freshly baked cookies and lemonade. Let us tempt you with our fresh, ground coffee or afternoon teas. You may try your hand at pocket billiards in our Old World game room. We also have board games, internet computer and an extensive lending library available for every member of the family. Take a refreshing swim in our outdoor pool or just lounge in the sun overlooking the ocean. We have a rooftop sun and observation deck from which you can watch Gloucester's fishing fleet go out for the days catch. Borrow one of our bikes and tour the mansions along the shores of East Gloucester. Or try your hand at a game of croquet. Explore, along the ocean, the many tidal pools. Get out your fishing rod for the Striped Bass and Blue Fish off the rocks in front of the hotel. Partake of our membership at the adjacent Bass Rocks Golf Club, an 18-hole private club overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Stroll along the ocean walk for a 0.25 mile and take the footbridge to Good Harbor Beach. With beautiful white sand, this is a full service beach with lifeguards, bathhouse, and concession.

This was our first stay in Gloucester. The room was standard size, the bathroom a little small but both were immaculate. The free breakfast was delicious, the staff very friendly and the view, unbelievable. I could sit on the enclosed porch for hours just looking at the jagged rocks and ocean. The pool is right across from the ocean, Good Harbor beach is fabulous an in walking distance. There's plenty to do in Gloucester so our stay was really great!!

70 year old male with a luxury budget, traveling for leisure
I have been to the Bass Rock approx. 2-3 times each season for the past three years, last year I brought 5 other couples over the season from June to Sept. giving them approx. 14 nights occupancy, of which 10 nights were in the June and Sept. "Off season", 4 nights in the high season (July).
In Sept. '06 we booked for three nights, 3 rooms, arrived and spent two nights there. On the second day there we decided to not stay the third night, since the weather was bad.
The desk clerk charged us for the third night and said that we had to pay if they couldn't book the rooms for other guests.
I wrote a letter to the owners asking for a credit for the two nights (2 rooms X 1 night) I was charged for, for leaving early, citing the number of guests that I had brought them that season. I asked that they give me two nights credit in the off season for 2007. and I would also bring additional guests and take additional rooms at that time. They wouldn't allow me the credit and stated that if they didn't charge me for the two rooms I didn't use in Sept.'06, they couldn't stay in business.
I was stunned, apparently they are not good business people, or didn't think that I would mind being charged an additional $350.00 for 2 nights that I didn't use.
Well, I will not patronize them again and they are out at least 10-15 room nights this year and every year thereafter. I am amazed that they took that position.
Incidentally, I was just in Gloucester this past weekend and stayed at another hotel, which was cheaper and nicer, same road, same view.
My days at the bass Rock are over but I love Gloucester and will continue to go there and bring additional people with me, but not to the Bass Rock.

After a week on a packaged tour, with a wide range of hotel experiences, the Bass Rocks Ocean Inn was a welcome treat for our last night in New England. Clean, quiet, great view and location. We will certainly return.
