I would advise everyone to be careful about staying at the Banyan Tree Resort. I myself have stayed there once--about three years ago--and had no problems. However, a cousin and two of her friends stayed there during the week of September 3, 2007. Their cottage was broken into during the night , while they were sleeping, and $2,000 was stolen from them. Their purses were in their bedrooms, so the thief came into the bedroom while they were sleeping. The police said that the locks on their cottage's sliding doors were completely inadequate, and that there had been other break-ins in the area during the past few years. The owners of the resort took $100 off the week's bill, but otherwise were very uninterested in taking responsibility. They had done nothing to respond to the other break-ins by installing better security devices on the doors. Also, when my cousin and her friends took possession of the cottage, the motion detector lights outside the cottage were broken. They were only repaired after the robbery. Also, after the robbery, some sort of device was put on the sliding door to prevent it from being moved. This appears to be a situation where every few months someone who knows this area and these buildings just helps themselves and the owners do not respond in any way to improve security unless they are forced to by events..
