We loved this hotel. We came to New Orleans for a conference at the convention center. The location was pretty good, its about a 15-20 minute walk to the convention center. I walk kind of slow though. The hotel is right next to a bunch of descent restaurants. I really liked the pizza at Slice and the Voo Doo Cafe wasn't too bad either if you are looking for something quick. The trolley picks you up right outside the hotel and will drop you off in the French Quarter. It stops running kind of early so you will have to take a cab or walk back. Its not a bad walk. We had no problems parking. I would definitely stay here again. The price was great, but the staff was amazing. My roommates and I often came in very late and were too drunk to locate our keys. The front desk people never complained or judged, they just opened the door with a smile. They were able to split up our bill in the most convenient manner, which was really helpful. They were just all around helpful, friendly, and really, really nice! We had such a nice trip.

The hotel actually has 3 parts: a main building (charming - where the internet pictures are taken), an addition (nice rooms... but zero charm) and a detached garage (about a block away - not a big deal unless you have physical challenges - or the weather's bad).
Overall, it was dated - you could tell by the noises the heat made, etc. - but functional. The people were outstanding, can't say enough.
One thing I learned too late - If you get lost, ask directions. Many of the street signs are still twisted. If you rely on a map and street signs, you will get lost.

As a frequent visitor to the city, I have stayed in many major New Orleans hotels. The Avenue Garden was a breath of fresh air from the usual pricey, enormous chain hotels. It is small but charming with upscale details in the room I stayed in. ...
