We just returned from AP and after cruising for the last 3 years, this place is excellent. We've loved our cruise experiences (at least 2 out of three, stay clear of NCL) but the service, quality of food, amenities, and spa facilities, not to mention the resort grounds themselves, are unmatched.
The rooms are spacious, well kept, and the jacuzzi is an added bonus you wouldn't find in too many other places. Plenty of drinks (alch and non-alch) stocked up in your room at your request. Room service, although 24 hour, has a limited menu. My suggestion is order form one of the restaurants and take it to go to your room.
7 excellent restaurants to choose from, each its own specialty. A excellent steak house, Italian, Mexican, Cali cuisine, International, and 2 buffets for dinner. You can find just about anything that you like. The service is 1st class.
The pools and beach (enclosed lagoon on the ocean) are all kept in excellent shape, swim up bars, water sports, cross current pool, whirlpools, Jacuzzis, you name it.
The spa is probably the crown jewel. Do not leave without doing some hydrotherapy daily! they will tell you that you can only use the Spa on the day you have a service booked, but there is another smaller spa downstairs under the gym that all guests can use whenever it is open.
The resort is divided (imaginary) between the Spa side (North, quiet, relaxed, laid-back) and the Aventura side (South, active, disco, late-night, more party atmosphere, but not Spring-breaker-like at all). You can venture back and forth and keep your world separate if you please. It a nice added touch to have both worlds, but the two never meet, so to say.
All in all, an excellent place. Some advice to newcomers...put out the 1.5 hours for their sales pitch to become a member (make sure you give them the "I'm on vacation and need to get out by the pool and relax" line so they don't keep you longer) and you'll receive (at least this is what we got) a free beach bag, 2 t-shirts, $100 spa credit, $100 credit to spend at the resort (can be used for your room charges at the end of your trip too!), $100 credit for the golf/spa shop. Also, if you know a member, book it through that person, you'll get a cheaper rate than through a travel agent, or event the resort itself, with much more add-ons. In addition to to what I mentioned above, because we booked through a member, we also received free transfers to and from the airport, 2 massages, 2 pedicures, 2 manicures, and all excursions to the Mayan sites for free. We figured that we saved ourselves over $1000 in extras. We ended paying $2 (that's two dollars!) the whole week we were there. Lock your wallet in the room safe and forget its there, because you will not need any cash!
I would highly recommend this resort, honeymooners, vacationers, anniversaries, etc. I can't say enough about how nice, relaxing, and enjoyable it was. We'll be there next year for sure!
