In the heart of Old Salem is The Augustus T. Zevely Inn, built in 1844, and restored as an inn in 1994 with meticulous attention to historic accuracy. The renovation was overseen by co-owner Tom Lantry, who also operates the Thomas Bond House in Philadelphia's Independence National Park, an equally historic structure and a long time reader favorite. Rooms are furnished with Old Salem collection furnishings, based on originals found in local museums and private homes. AAA 3 diamond & MOBIL 2 star rated. Conde Nast Johansens recommended Inn. Excellent
My husband and I stayed at the AZ sedveral weekends ago, the rooms and service were top notch. The inn keeper was a delight, very helpful with directions and information about Winston Salem. We will be back and we have told our friends who also...
When we arrived and checked in, there was no heat on in the room, it was very cold in there. The inn keeper stated "you're a little early & I've not lit the fireplace or turned on the heat. It was a nice place & a great location. ...
Lovely decor, quaint peaceful surroundings. Newly updated rooms felt like a walk through time on a quiet evening. I can't wait to return. The staff was extremely attentive and helpful, and the personal touches were very homey. There were fresh...

Good
Located in the middle of a Moravian village, the Inn is quaint and enjoyable. They served terrific wines upon arrival and there is a great tavern/fine dining across the street. Very helpful staff and quiet rooms (including third-story rooms) made...
I had to write a response to the only review - which was not very flattering - found on this website. We have stayed at the AZ Inn while visiting college aged children on several occasions. We have found the rooms to be attractive, clean, and...
51 year old female with a luxury budget, traveling for leisure
When we arrived in the morning no was able to help us with our luggage. We were met by the innkeeper who was dressed in a tee shirt and bare feet. When we checked into our room, the bathroom was dirty, the shades on the windows were broken, the cover for the exhaust fan fell off, and I found a used tampon applicator in the top drawer of the night stand. The breakfast of French toast was cold and hard; there was no milk for the cereal and the innkeeper was no where to be found. When she finally came to clean up the dirty dishes, which the guest had to bring to the kitchen themselves, she was once again barefooted. When the wine and cheese was set out she was not to be found again. The guest had to take care of themselves.
I needed to call a cab and went looking for her, and found her in her apartment with a friend, and was made to wait outside her door while she made the call. I needed to ask a question the next day, but she would not acknowledge me because she was talking to her staff in the common dining area. She had no knowledge of any restaurants in the area, and made you feel that she could not be bother with your questions. She was not around for check out and the housekeeper had to check out the guests. I made a call to the owner regarding my concerns and he told me he would call me back. It has been about 4 months and he has never called. We have stayed here before and had a very nice time and were treated very well, but we will not be going back again. Both my husband and I have traveled extensively in the United States, Europe, and Caribbean and this is the first time I have written a negative review. So if you choose to stay here the only positive aspect is the location.
Great location, terrible service, I am a returning
