"Club Nightmare" – Posted Oct 23, 2009

Horrible
female with an economy budget, traveling for business

Booked online for a reasonable place to stay because my elderly mother was scheduled for eye surgery at 6:30 a.m. Needed two nights because of follow up appointment. Upon check-in the desk clerk put us in a room way in the back of the motor lodge on the opposite side of main parking, even though it was just a Tuesday night. Non-smoking room smelled terrible. We parked very near our room under a street lamp, covered the stereo equipment, locked the doors. Checked car at midnight and went to bed. At 6:15 a.m. found the glass in the car smashed and the stereo head unit and amplifier stolen. Our key would not let us back into the room so I went to the front desk, no help, went to valet, no help, picked up the phone, asked for security, gave my room number and requested help. Fifty minutes later and another return trip to Front Desk, a young man on a bicycle showed up. Eventually, 3 men showed up saying the delay was due to the changing of the night shift to the morning shift. They stood around staring at the shattered glass until I lost it. I was amazed that they had nothing to say or any idea what to do. I finally demanded that they give us a ride to my mother's surgery center, clean the glass from the vehicle, secure the vehicle until we could return, and provide names of local glass repair companies. They finally transported my mother and I in the "Security" pick-up truck, while the shuttle vans and hotel limos idly set by awaiting, I suppose, more distinguished clientele. That afternoon I had to leave my recovering mother unattended in the hotel room while I went out to get the glass replaced. We had to spend the second night and I put the car in valet parking because management said that was the only way a car break-in is covered by the hotel. Well, if you read the fine print on the valet claim ticket, it excludes all damage by third-parties, and the hotel's maximum liability is $250! The worse part of the experience was the way we were treated by management. It was surprising to me that they did not: 1) assure us they would help get us to my mother's surgery appointment; 2) clean up the shattered glass; 3) help us get the vehicle repaired; 4) offer to move us to a more secure location for the second night. This is making a long story short, but again, this place is not "Club Paradise", but "Club Nightmare". The only way to assure the safety of your vehicle at the Atlantis is to sleep in it! Stay away....

hidden fees and stale cigarettes – Posted Oct 11, 2009

Horrible
male with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

Booked the room via the hotel's reservation line. Upon check-in, they added the "resort" fee. I know this is common for casinos to have such a fee, but my complaint was that it was not included in the price quote over the phone, when I asked to be quoted with taxes and fees included. The reception staff claimed that the reservations personnel undergo training regarding the resort fee. Begs the question: what kind of training? training on how to TRICK the customer? When asked if to "waive" the fee, the reception representative explained that the non-negotiable resort fee covered "hot water" and "electricity" in the rooms, and was applied in accordance with Washoe county laws. Pretty impressive "training" to come up with 3 lame excuses in one breath. Such a luxury to have electricity in the rooms, I wonder why motel 6 doesn't charge a resort fee for their electricity. Good to know that I am being ripped off legally. Thanks for the customer reception! Can you quote me another law please? Despite being irked, I took the room because it was late and wanted to get some sleep. To add injury to insult, the "non-smoking" room had a terrible smell of stale cigarette smoke. Used the pool the next morning prior to departure (after all that was part of the resort fee). Hardly anything to brag about, expecially with a name like "Atlantis" you'd think they would have invested more money in the pool design. Bottom line, the Peppermill and the Nuggett each have much better services (and pools) at comparable prices. Even Sands Regency, at a much lower price, provides better services than Atlantis. Atlantis is sunk. Don't sink your money into this sunk casino hotel.

Resort Fee $10 – Posted Aug 09, 2009

Okay
male with an economy budget, traveling for leisure

For those booking for the cheapest good room add $10 for the "resort fee" that basically covers stuff you often get included at some hotels: pool, internet, local calls.

The motor lodge rooms are just a notch below chain hotels, but the tower is nice (once on a low price room, I was upgraded to a spa suite with a broken jacuzzi

Nice restaurants, but the All you can eat sushi bar is only a good deal if you load up on the sashimi. Otherwise the rice fills you up before you get too far...

The casinos were empty, not much activity as I remember from years past. I do want to say though, the restaruant on the skyway. Oster and shushi bar etc. We had a wonderfully good meal and that was the best part. The room was fine. I know the place

I loved that this hotel wasn't downtown but yet close enough - within a couple of miles. Also near airport.

Felt safe as a single female walking inside, as well as going to and from the parking lot. Buffet was fabulous on Friday and Saturday.
