Simply the worst – Posted Aug 06, 2009

Horrible

I wonder who runs this place. Mold, grime, cracks...Half the staff seemed concerned when I reported my perfume was stolen from the bathroom, and I was sitting on the terrace! I confronted the maid about it, she denied it but I knew she lied based on her initial response. Apparently I wasn't the only disgruntled guest. Someone plugged a toilet that appeared as if a pipe burst right above our room. My son awoke to dripping on his bed. The outside hallway was drenched. I could go on... This is simply the last resort.

Horrible

I can't believe this place, nor the people who operate it. My perfume was stolen out of the bathroom while I was on the terrace. I confronted the maid, she denied it, but I could tell she lied based on her initial response. I reported it but I think the entire staff shares in the booty of pirated property. I wasn't the only disgruntled guest, someone plugged a toilet above us and it appeared as if a pipe burst. Dirt, mold, cracks...I developed a sense of humor after a day or so about the place. I referred to it as The Bates Motel, the roach motel...This is really the last resort.

traveling for leisure

This hotel was great. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The room was clean and very affordable. The view was amazing. The carpet was a little old and stained but the rooms were clean and smelled so fresh I did not care about that.

It took us approximately 120 seconds to get out the phone book and start calling other hotels! None of the carpets were vacuumed, and had visible stains. The sheets were not washed. Cigarettes present on the floor. Throw up on the mirror, and no

Best parts of the hotel were:

1) The location. Near the Rudee Inlet, lots of places to rent bikes, close to Jet Ski and parasailing places.

2) The view. Can't mess this part up.

3) The staff. They were super-friendly.

4) Airconditioning in the room was excellent.

5) Singer/band that performed in the outdoor restaurant/deck called Casper's were great. We were on the second floor and could hear the music loud and clear. Four out of the five were very good.

6) The food at Casper's was awesome.

Bad parts of the hotel were:

1) The filth. Hallways, elevator, rooms, balcony, the pool area and the parking lot was never clean. I kept my flipflops on the whole week we were there. The trash cans in the stairwell had the same trash (it was overflowing) for days in a row. Likewise for the beer cans around the pool area. Cigarette butts were all over the place.

2) Noise. The rooms weren't very well insulated so if you were trying to sleep and the band was playing, well, you didn't.

3) Parking was a block 1/2 away. The lot was as dirty as the hotel.

4) Cigarette smoke. Our hallway reeked of smoke.

5) Uneven temps throughout the hotel. The elevator was always very hot. The hallways were too except for pockets of very cool air as you walked past heating vents.

6) Not enough washers and dryers. There was one of each for the whole place.

To make matters worse, one of the best hotels on the beach was two doors south of this place. We kept looking at the Springhill Suites with envy, not so much because of the glitz of the place (it was) but because the place was so clean. Their smallest rooms (two queens) are $79 more per night than what we paid at Atlantic Sands (we stayed in a suite) but if we were able to get out of our reservation - 72 hours required - we would've switched in a heartbeat. I still shudder thinking about the dirt in that place. Run, don't walk from this place.

Mediocre

There is no parking on site. The door was impossible to open. It took us 20 times everytime we had to get into our room. When we first got to our room, it smelled awful so I opened the balacony door which was broken. The lock was completely taken...

Terrible – Posted Jan 28, 2008

31 year old female with a luxury budget, traveling for leisure

My stay at the Atlantic Sands (Virginia Beach) was the worst hotel experience that I have ever had. My advice to anyone shopping for hotel accommodations at Virginia Beach is to avoid the Atlantic Sands. When my friend and I checked in, the first hotel room that we were given was filthy. There was even a bag of trash in one of the dresser drawers, and hair in the bed sheets. We were eventually allowed to move to another room, which was better than the first, but not by much. The room still was not as clean as I would have expected, but it seemed that it was as clean as we were going to get at the Atlantic Sands. The toilet in the new room would not flush without physically holding the handle down until the flushing process was complete. Merely pressing and releasing the toilet handle, as is typically done with properly working toilets, was not sufficient to make the toilet flush. Then, to add to the absurdity of having to stand above the toilet continuously holding the handle to make it flush, the flushing process was slow as heck, which meant you were standing there holding the handle down for a ridiculous amount of time. To cap off our experience with the Atlantic Sands, when we prepared to shower and get dressed on our last morning at the hotel, we discovered that the hot water was not working. I immediately called the front desk to report this problem and was told the hot water would be fixed in a few minutes. After the few minutes turned into about an hour, I attempted to call the front desk again and discovered that the phone in our room was not working, so I had to call using my cell phone. I was told at that time that the water would be on shortly. After another hour or so, when the hot water was still not working, I tried calling the front desk again, and the room phone happened to work this time. To make a long story short, the hot water never came back on, and the phone in our room apparently worked when it felt like it, rather than every time you wanted to make a call. Though check-out time was at 11:00 or 12:00, we ended up not leaving the hotel until after 2:00 because we had been waiting all of this time in hopes of being able to take a hot shower, which was apparently an unreasonable expectation at the Atlantic Sands (at least on the morning of January 13). We eventually just took cold showers and got the hell out of their hotel. Before leaving the hotel I asked to speak with a manager and was told that one was not there at that time. I called the hotel the next day at around 4:00 in the afternoon and was told that the managers had left for the day. I ended up calling back two weeks later and was told for the third time that no manager was available, but that she would be back in approximately 20 minutes. I called back and was able to speak to the manager (finally!). I explained to her how horrible my experience had been and requested that part of the cost of my stay there be refunded. The manager then had the audacity to scold me about not taking care of this sooner. I, of course, told her that I had attempted to speak with someone about my experience before I left her hotel and again on the day after I checked out, but was told that a manager was not available. Upon me saying this, the manager with whom I was speaking told me that a manager was always available, given that they provide (or claim to provide) 24 hour service, thus implying that I was not being honest when I told her of my prior attempts to speak with someone about my awful experience with this hotel. She also told me that they had just switched computer systems and, because of this, I could not be refunded any of the money that I’d paid to stay at the Atlantic Sands. As an alternative, she offered to send me a coupon or something for a free stay at the hotel, as if I would ever consider staying at that hellhole again. If my experience at the Atlantic Sands is in any way indicative of their standard operating procedure, then you would be wise to choose other accommodations. I’m so disgusted with them that I don’t even want to stay within a few blocks of the Atlantic Sands on my next visit to Virginia Beach.
