55 year old male with a luxury budget, traveling for business
I had a very nice room with a killer view of the pool area and ocean. The room was on the top floor so it had very high vaulted ceilings making it seem bigger. It's a calm, relaxing atmosphere and I would definitely return.

The rooms have been recently updated, and the pool area is nice. The only problem is the restaurant and bar staff - they are incredibly rude and make you feel very unwanted. We had to leave the restaurant due to slow service (waiting over an hour for an appetizer), returned food that was uncooked at the bar, and were denied service at the bar when they claimed they were closed, even though a table was sitting there with full drinks. They also stop their breakfast service at 10am, and the bar supposedly closes at 10pm. Both incredibly early for a vacation resort.

We stayed 6 nights here, and the accommodations are wonderful, the people were great, food was excellent, and the location terrific. Newly renovated, the woodwork inside is quite nice, the room was large, airconditioned, with a deck. We didn't have an ocean view, tho they exist on request. Only down feature was we faced the luau tent, and we were treated to luau music every evening, which was part noisy and part excellent. Very nice, with a pool and access to not too swimmable spot on the ocean. Staff very friendly.

I actually booked in another ResortQuest Hotel Islander and it was horrible. The front desk person assisted me to find another one of their sister resorts which was the Makaiwa.
I was never so pleased as when I arrived late at night and was graciously welcomed and accommodated. It was exactly what I was looking for as far as a 4 star hotel.
