My boyfriend and I got this room because we wanted to be near the Strip but did not want to pay Strip prices. We booked online and got a pretty good deal. A few days before our trip we double checked the reviews and were worried about what we saw. When we got there, we were pleasantly surprised to find it was not at all like it was made to be. Maybe that is because we are semi-seasoned travelers and know when to be picky.
It was a 5- 10 minute walk to the MGM (Just because you had to go down the street and cross the traffic) and right next to the Tropicana and Hooters Casino/Hotels. We went to the Hooters Casino a few times and they had taxis there if you wanted to a quick way to travel over to the strip.
The front desk was polite and they even let us hold our luggage there for a late night flight. Granted it was not the most updated and the internet was tricky to get around (only free a day but we had two laptops) but you pay for what you get. The air conditioner worked well especially on a hot day in Vegas!!
On the downside, the shower faucet only had a spray function and sometimes the tub faucet had trouble not working. There was no lock on the bathroom door and the lock on the front door was not exactly foolproof. The window curtain did not close all the way but I'm weird about that stuff so it probably suits others fine.
If you are traveling to Vegas for a second time around and are looking for the basics, then this is a decent place to book. We did not get a chance to use the pool but it was open and it did have laundry services (bring quarters) and was near a restaurant.
The only rift raft we ran into was late night once with some random drunk guy but that's Vegas and we're from Baltimore so that didn't faze us at all.
