Nestled between the Country Club and the golf course, Alta Sierra has it's own little rustic motel, the Alta Sierra Village Inn. The Inn was first opened in 1967, shortly after the first homes were built in Alta Sierra, and was called the Deer Creek Inn. Since opening, the Inn has had four owners and has grown from 11 to 15 rooms including:
l Suite with 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, kitchen, family room, dining area, and 2 large decks with a barbeque.
l Two room suite with microwave, refrigerator, and a large covered deck.
l Single rooms with either 2 full, 2 queen, or one king and one queen bed and cable TV; most of which have microwaves, refrigerators and covered decks with views

Good: nice location; quiet; friendly and non-obtrusive owners and staff
Not-so-good: furnishings really tired (bad thrift-store decor); carpeting suspicious; polyester bedding & tiny towels; not terribly clean; not terribly cheap.
The not-so-good would be a little different (i.e., a better value with fewer expectations) if a standard room didn't run close to $90 when we stayed there.
Same accommodations at perhaps 1/3rd less would be about right; OR same price but a little updating would be fine, too

This hotel is off the beaten path from highway 49 on the way to Grass Valley, CA. If you are looking for something different than the Holiday Inn Express, or any other national chain, then check this out. It is a rustic hotel, but the views are gorgeous. Each room has a bathroom skylight, a lovely deck, frig, microwave, and free wireless (yes, that's far better than the upscale hotel chains that stick you $10 per day on a > $150 night room). You do need to bring your own shampoo and creme rinse (just bring the small bottles from the last hotel you stayed in).
We stayed there 3 times in a week and would heartily recommend it to families, couples, and singles. It's a great value in beautiful surroundings. Skip the chains, pay half the price, bring your own shampoo and creme rinse and stay here.

What a delightful place! Rooms were exceptionally well-designed with a wall of sliding-glass doors leading to a private nice size balcony. High-pitched ceilings provid even more to the spacious feeling of the units. Professional, kind service. Outstanding location to the charming Nevada County Fairgrounds and popular old-California mining towns such as Nevada City and Grass Valley. Located in a wooded residential neighborhood, with a country store & deli and a semi-private golf club as its neighbors. We were on a pleasure trip but could be a wonderful alternative for the business traveler who is t-i-r-e-d of staying at the boring chains along their path.
