member icon A dirty dump so-called reap-off

57 year old woman with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

This was a joke; I visited their webb site which I found quite helpfull and booked a room online which was straightforward and quite efficient. HOWEVER, when I arrived at the hotel/inn after a fairly long subway/walking journey from South Station, I found an old dump of a house. I was requested to sign card and guests book and to pay upfront (never seen this before in a hotel) (of course they know what they do as once you paid you do not want to loose out and you stay, when what you really want to do is run away as fast as you can). I had requested a room with private bathroom which I did not get. The shared bathroom was in a state, you don't know whether the grouting is actually black or if it's mould, (well you guess anyway...). As for the room, the only positive thing about it was the air conditioning but NOTHING else. Even the towel which seemed fairly clean looked like it had been white once upon a time... And they did not make the bed... I know that it was fairly cheap and maybe I'm naive but I did expect at least a clean place... The worst was that I checked the guests book and counted how many people had booked in on that day. There were 12 entries, so at say 180 dollars a night -which is the price I paid- they could at least re paint the whole lot and make some improvements. Do not go there, for you own sake....

49 year old woman with a economy budget

I called to see about renting a studio apt. the man who answered the phone was probably the rudest person I've encountered over the phone. He definitely lost my interest and will tell everyone I know in the Kenmore, Boston area to stay clear of this place!!!

35 year old man with a economy budget, traveling for leisure

This place realized a nightmarish scenario: we (three of us) got to Boston around 6:00 am on Sat., June 9th. We asked for a room for 3 people and were quoted a price of $85 for a night's stay which we agreed to. We were clear about our expectation that we're paying for a night's stay there (despite the checkout being 3-4 hours later). After an understanding and a handshake with the on-site manager, we took our luggage to the room. We were first surprised to find only 2 beds there. Not a huge problem at the time and we decided to sort this out with the management afterwards. After spending a day in Boston, we returned to the room only to find our luggage missing! Upon inquiry, we were told that we checked out at 11 am and if we wanted to stay longer we should pay more. Dumbfounded, confused, tired, and incredulous, we attempted to remind the management of the deal we had earlier in the day but to no avail. The owner on the phone (we never saw him) at the other end, did not have any of it; he kept on insisting that any stay, until the checkout time is counted as 1 night and since we checked in at 6am., our 5 hour stay counts as 1 night. We asked for a refund based upon the inability to fulfill services agreed upon, which we didn't receive. There are witnesses to this agreement and clarifications made earlier at the time of payment. We ended up returning to VA at 11pm. at night with a very sour taste and wasting $100 for some crappy room which we never stayed in. If you don't want your vacation ruined then.

I went for a weekend and only ended up staying one night. If there was a health and safety inspection, this place would fail and be shut down. It was dirty and I saw a mouse in my room. I checked out the next morning and left. Do not stay here!

I am not likely to return to the Abercrombie's Farrington Inn.
I would not recommend it to friends.

25 year old woman with a economy budget, traveling for leisure

I've met a very bad hostel boss in this hostel, he said I double booked the hostel and insisted on charging me double price, even after I told him the computer had been hung up for one hour between two bookings and I've just got one confirmation letter from hostelworld.com (I booked the hostel through this website).

He said I had just two options: one is go away (but he still had the right to debit money from my pre-offered credit card), the other is take his offer, and he fooled me that if I took his offer I could go to the manager on the following morning and if found something wrong I could get the money back. He told me he was a manager at that time.

On the following morning the manager just let me talk to him directly again, he had nothing to do because the boss and he was just a staff member, and on the phone he very rudely said: "I wouldn't give money back, I said that just because I want to make both of us happy! And the $25 is so cheap, why do you waste your time on just $25!" How come I met the people like this? He must've thought I'm just a visitor, he could do anything as he likes, cheating on his customer! And what's more strange is he hasn't shown up, he was in the hostel but he always talked to the customers with the phone, he hid like criminal. Whenever I wanted to ask a question I was passed the phone by a young receptionist. I called the policemen for help but was dumped out by them under the manager's very fluent English explanation.

I am not likely to return to the Abercrombie's Farrington Inn.
I would not recommend it to friends.
