We stayed 1 night at this hotel last – Posted Mar 02, 2009

Mediocre

We stayed 1 night at this hotel last week. The front desk staff was friendly and courteous, but the hotel is run down and the rooms very tired and worn. Before we booked, we read that the rooms had been updated in 2008, but we did not see any...

Good

I have been to Maui several times. I don't go there to stay in my room all day. We just needed a clean and safe place to sleep at night and take a shower. The Maui Lu more than lived up to those expectations. First of all, the grounds are...

41 year old male with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

I cannot really think of any negative things to say about my stay at this hotel! My partner and I just stayed at the Aston Maui Lu from 4/27-4/30 as part of a package deal we purchased. Yes, the hotel is old but who cares? Do you plan on staying in your hotel room the entire time you're in Hawaii? If so, you're really, really missing out!

The room that we stayed in was on the third floor right behind the lobby building. There was ALWAYS plenty of parking and you literally only had to take 30 steps or so from your car to get to the elevator. COOL! I did not encounter any moldy smells as other reviewers have mentioned. Our room had two queen sized beds, a rather large table with two chairs, plenty of drawers/storage area, a tv that got plenty of channels, a few lamps to turn on that provided plenty of light, a good sized closet with a safe inside, and we could even see the ocean from our window!

The bathroom was of average size with some toiletries and plenty of towels. During our stay, the maids were so nice when we asked for extra towels. Upon returning to our room one day, there was a bag of fresh towels waiting outside our door since we had declined maid service during our stay. That was very much appreciated! I also asked for extra towels twice at the front desk and they always handed them over with much aloha! If you want to use the safe, it is only $1.50 per day. A newspaper was also left outside of our door each morning, another nice perk. Free coffee is served in the lobby starting at around 5:00am, a great perk since we were still on mainland time and up every morning around 3:30-4:00am!

The grounds surrounding the hotel are actually very pleasant. I saw a few employees grooming the plants around the pool and in other areas. The pool is actually fairly large! I went swimming one morning after I returned from snorkeling and there were only two other people in the pool! Traveling in the off-season sure is great!

Most of the activity in Kihei is just down the road from the hotel. There is a beach directly across the street and it is a great place to watch the sunset from! There is also a totem pole of some sort and it makes for some good photo ops! The beach isn't as inviting as some of the other ones further south in Kihei, but you won't be hanging out there anyway.

I would definitely stay at the Maui Lu again! It is too good of a deal to pass up!

Okay

The Maui Lu was an older property. The carpets seemed old and unclean as was the bathtub in the room I stayed. The tub had glue from the non slip strips still in the tub and were not removed. It made the tub look like it was unclean. The property...

Okay

If you are looking for the luxury of Kanapali you will not find it here. But if you like to be able to see whales jumping from your balcony, hear the waves crash right below your room, walk down the stairs and be on the beach you will be happy. I...

I enjoyed my stay here. It certainly isn't a luxury hotel, but it was away from the hustle of bustle of Kahului. The staff there was great and I really appreciated the golf cart ride from my car in the parking lot to my room. We arrived very late ...
