I stayed at 6 Columbus circle for 5 nights in January 2008. It opened a couple of months ago and it is part of the Thompson hotels chain. It isn't a 4 stars like the 60 Thompson but a good 3 1/2 stars.
PROS:
-The rooms are very clean
-big plasma TV
-The courteous and professional staff, every single one of them. The concierge, Brian, sent me to Centro vinoteca and he was right because it is an excellent restaurant.
-the restaurant Blue ribbon has great food and I had the best margarita ever!
-functional room even if it was small. You had a space underneath the bed to store your clothes.
-a minibar without frightening prices
-a great location. Beware though because 6 Columbus is not a real address and cabbies will have trouble finding it. It is located on west 58th just west of 8th avenue.
CONS:
-the shower is not functional....no soap holder and no place to put your shampoo bottle but on the ground.
-a younger clientele which made up for noise on 2 nights, especially one night where the 20 something guys who had 2 rooms next to mine were yelling in the hallways and in their rooms.
I had a special through quikbook and I paid 150$ per night which I thought was a great special. I would not have paid 250$ for a small room like this one. I would have gone elsewhere for 250$ but at 150$, I consider that it was a great choice.
PS I went back a second time in March 2008 and found that the hotel had less glitches than 2 months ago. Almost all the doormen welcomed me back warmly... even if I am not a 25 year old model:)
This time I did not have any noise so my experience was better sleeping nights. I still recommend this hotel if you get great prices through Quikbook.com
