I've stayed at the 1876 Inn at least 3 times and loved it. My room was clean and the staff was very friendly. I love the reasonable rates, gives me more money to play in Eureka Springs! It's always been quiet and relaxing at the 1876 Inn. The...
31 year old female with a luxury budget, traveling for leisure
After a one hour check-in process and multiple trips back and forth because the keys wouldn't work, we discovered that we didn't even get the room we booked. We booked a NON-SMOKING room, and the first room they gave us smelled as if someone had just finished smoking in there, and even had a USED ASHTRAY on top of the ancient TV.
The next room they gave us had literally just been rejected by some bikers based on the fact that there was a huge puddle outside the door. They missed the joy that lay inside.
Here again was the decor of despair. The off color walls were complemented by the strong smell of mildew permeating the room. Two beds, an ancient TV, and a bathroom; the ONLY DIFFERENCE between this room and the first one is that IT WAS DIRTIER. The bathtub contained USED DENTAL FLOSS and A LIVE SPIDER IN ITS WEB. This spider had made its home here, here in the bathtub, unmolested by say, a sponge or cleansers.
Let me say that if this room was an upgrade, then I am Michael Jackson.
We went to get some dinner in hopes that food would put us into a coma sufficient to numb us to the mildew smell of the room. How naive we were. We returned to the room around 11pm. I pulled back the cover of the bed and a large SPIDER ran out across the sheets.
I hate SPIDERS. I especially hate when they live IN THE BED where I am supposed to sleep. My friend Fiona, who is an entomologist, looked at it and said, "Bad news, it's a Brown Recluse spider."
I hate POISONOUS SPIDERS. Brown Recluse spiders like to wander over sleeping people and bite them. Bonus fun fact: their toxin can cause necrotic skin lesions!
We grabbed our stuff and while Fiona went for the car, I, with my heart pounding and stomach in nauseated spasms, went to see the night desk person.
If I had been in my right mind I would have realized that this was a no-win situation from the start, because a motel that could not even be bothered to clean the rooms for rent was unlikely to care about the state of said rooms, but I was literally driven temporarily insane by the prospect of sleeping with poisonous spiders.
The night staff person did not greet me, nor offer to help. As soon as I began speaking his expression turned quickly from morose to belligerent. I said, "There are poisonous spiders in the bed. It is unclean and unsafe."
"Then leave!" he shouted. "Get on outta here! Leave!" He turned his back and walked away from me.
I told him that this was the worst service I had ever had and this was a terrible establishment. His response was to gesture that I should perform oral sex upon him and then run after us into the parking lot shouting, "Bitch, you're not woman enough!!"
Across the street, bikers were hooting. As Fiona pointed out, they saw a man making obscene gestures and cursing at two women, and they automatically took the man's side. That was a scary realization.
So to review, this was not merely an instance of bad service, but a truly HORRIFYING experience: an unclean, spider infested motel run by sociopaths. If you dare to stay here, bring a can of RAID for the room, and a can of MACE for the staff.

We have been stayng at this motel for about 6 years. They have re-done the rooms and have a wonderful awning to park motorcycles under if it rains. They are very accomodating and get you anything you need. But mostly we love the covered parking next to our rooms. If you swim you will love the pool and because its on a wooded hillside maybe you will be lucky and see the wild life roaming while sitting at the pool. Stay there I'm sure you will want to go back for another visit we do every 4th of July.
