The rate was very reasonable and the room was basic but very comfortable. We stayed in the Carriage house which is off the main house and contains 5 rooms. IIt was well within walking distance of all the shopping and eateries on the waterfront and parking was free in the inns lot. If you have ever tried parking in Newport- you know how valuable this commodity is! We were looking online at comparable places in Newport and could only find rates in the $300 to $400-a-night range. The Yankee Peddler Inn was a steal at almost half those rates! We stayed in a spacious two bedroom suite, with two well-dressed queen beds. Although I must admit the bathroom was tiny - it was probably a closet at one time - one must understand that this is just a part of the charm of staying at an Inn. (Other rooms may have different bathroom situations, of course.) I found the continental breakfast to be adequate - this isn't a Bed-and-Breakfast with a full morning meal, but it was enough to get our day started. From the Yankee Peddler Inn, it is a pleasant walk to the downtown/wharf areas (I wouldn't recommend driving downtown, as parking is extremely limited). We did rent a car and drive to the mansions each day, but we were never at a loss for a parking space at the Inn, even though we did have to leave our keys at the front desk because of double parking. The staff went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable, even letting us use their computer to print out our boarding passes. Told to leave car key at front desk so if someone had to get out - cars would be moved (cars parked in the middle). Attendant admitted she didn't know how to drive a stick. Employee called & moved us to another one of the owner's inns at a higher rate. we were told we would be refunded the night we were charged at the peddler instead i found out through my credit card that we were charged for both inns.
