Not as good as they should be

We had our wedding with the Cleveland Ritz. We had to wait 1 1/2 hours for our room at check in, even with a "priority" status. We got in at 5:30 and my rehearsal dinner was at 6:30. When we brought it up to our events manager, she said that she was told we only waited an hour, as if this was more satisfactory. The food wasn't prepared properly as agreed upon during the tasting, some of the booze in our package wasn't provided and several other problems occurred. The rooms have no wow factor like you would have expected for the regular charge of $500 a night, (we got a discount because we booked the wedding, and paid $199 a night) We had a list of 10 items that were not handled as well as they could have been and as a result did have a negative impact on our wedding and our stay with them. In the end, our $13,000 wedding, (not including the several other family members who paid for their rooms with them) resulted with a mere $500 "credit" for our inconvenience. My father put it best, everything I planned came out wonderful...until the hotel came along and screwed it up. Think twice before you sign up with them. Our experience shows that you don't get what you pay for. The Residence at Marriott is just down the street with nicer rooms, great service and the rooms cost around $130 a night. They are very friendly too.

Ritz-Carlton Cleveland- Cockroach?

I have just returned from 3 days at the Ritz Carlton in Cleveland to attend a wedding. I want to comment first on the service at the hotel which was very good. Chet the doorman is wonderful and I had read about him before we arrived. Bad news though: I paid a lot for a room which had a toilet that didn't flush adequately and on the second night, when I returned to my room, there was a huge cockroach in the bathroom. I took it in a ziplock bag, still alive, to the front desk and said that I had spent way too much on a room with a cockroach. They comped one night. The bathroom had NO exhaust fan, no heater, old shower head. Bed was very comfy. Rooms were old, run down. The wedding was lovely and the staff very kind, but, this place is not the quality of a Ritz-Carlton. I might expect cockroaches at the Motel 6- but not the RC.

My friend and I make sure we always stay @ the Ritz while visiting Cleveland. It's in the middle of all the action, and very beautiful inside. We always have excellent service, food, drinks, etc. I am looking forward to our next trip to the Ritz!

I liked the conveniance to the Tower Mall, and the luxurious bathrobes. The turn down service was like being on a cruise. We felt very pampered.

management

Very young inexperienced staff. Most of my questions went unanswered and I was told they could look it up and get back to me. The GM was very hard to speak to and understand. Cleveland has a long way to go to having a 5 star hotel. I am from the west coast and my pick for Cleveland is the Glidden House. Much nicer location and the staff was by far more experienced and knowledgeable about the city.
