Great location; surprisingly comfortable

My room had a coffee machine, iron and ironing board, decent TV, and comfortable bed. The shower curtain had a little mildew, but the rest of the bathroom was clean. The continental breakfast was awesome: soy milk as well as regular milk, Yoplait yogurt (non- and low-fat), muffins, etc. If the continental breakfast isn't enough, there's a great pancake/espresso place next door. They were still renovating the foyer, so that area wasn't pretty, and I heard road traffic through my exterior door on the 4th floor (half the rooms open to a hallway, so I'll bet you can request that if the noise bothers you), but you can't beat the location if you're visiting UVA.

This hotel is just great if you are visiting for a UVA function but don't bother if you are going just as a tourist. It's inconvenient. It is clean and nice, a little "used" but nothing special. There should certainly be more convenient locations in town.

For an older hotel this hotel had an excellent breakfast, nice pool and was close to attractions. It could have been a little cleaner and could use some updates.

Waste of time

Before I booked a room in this hotel I read reviews in several different places on the internet, and most of the reviews were good. I am sorry to say that I cannot follow that pattern. This was the absolute worst experience with a Best Western - and maybe a hotel in general - that I have ever had. I am not one to complain about things because I understand how difficult it is to work in a service-related field like this, but I cannot let this one slide.
Our reservation was for a room with two double beds but ended up being a room with one double bed and a pull-out couch. We stayed there on two separate occasions during the week, and the second night we found that we had no pillows for the pull-out and we were short towels as well. The staff at the front desk said they had no way of getting any pillows or linens because they did not have keys to the room where they were kept. We had one extra pillow we had brought with us, so one person had to sleep with no pillow. The front desk staff told us that they would give us a discount on our room because of the problems, but instead ended up charging me two more times for a room I had already paid for through Travelocity. My bill for a room that originally cost me $79 plus taxes suddenly turned into over $200. I called to get the problem fixed and was told that the manager was talking with someone and I would need to call back about 10:30 or so to see if he was available then. I needed to call them? This matter has still not been resolved and I am furious.
The hotel was near restaurants and things of that nature, but that is about all I can say about the place. Both rooms we stayed in had mildew on the ceilings around or in the bathroom. The wireless internet service did not pick up past the second floor (it was free when you could get a signal). The staff is clueless. Parking was limited and the only remaining spaces when we arrived Thursday night for our last stay there was in an underground parking garage bearing a banner saying the hotel was not responsible for leaking water that might stain your vehicle.
The hotel is inexpensive, but needs to be even more so. Don't waste your time on it. There are much better options that I wish I had taken.

good value

I have stayed here several times while moving my daughter in/out of UVa. The staff is very helpful and the location can't be beat. Parking is plentiful and convenient. The rooms are very small and dark, which makes them feel unclean. The lobby is attractive but the guest rooms are sorely in need of a facelift. If you are just looking for a place to "crash" while visiting the University, it's a good value.
