Welcome to the old world charm of yesterday! I found this hotel to be quite charming. Great location on the M' Mile. I stayed in the room describe as a petite classic. Yes, the room was small, but was clean, comfortable and very well appointed (flat screen T.V., marble bathroom with glass enclosed shower). Room service was great! I really enjoyed my meal. The only negative was the small elevators. Bottom line, I enjoyed my stay and would stay there again.

This hotel is beautiful and the staff

This hotel is beautiful and the staff are EXCELLENT. However, we did not choose to take advantage of the available room upgrade form "petite" double bed to two single beds...We should have. the rooms, the hallways- evrything about this hotels living area is dramatically small!! The elevators were even 1/3 the size of a normal hotel elevator. With that said, the hotel is a beautiful historic renassance building on Mag Mile in chicago. You can not ask for more than a bigger room!! The price was amazing for what we got. I would stay there in a heartbeat, and the staff were tremendous!

Arrived only to find hotel did not have the two beds I requested. We were upgraded to a corner suite for no additional charge. Was absolutely beautiful. Concierge was most helpful. Restaurant in hotel was a bit pricey, but food was terrific. Would definitely stay here again.

Great Location

We really liked this hotel! It's right off of Michigan Avenue & we had great experience with the concierge and at the newly remodeled bar. Took a peak at the ballroom on the top floor and it's really beautiful--a secret gem in this city, I'd say!
Some of the desk staff could use a public relations/customer service course(management-please invest in this), but overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back.

LOVE THE ALLERTON

It is a beautiful hotel located directly on Michigan Avenue. The hotel is under a renovation currently (expected to be completed beginning of March 2008) and the new rooms are stunning! It is THE place to stay when in Chicago!

VERY SATISIFIED

I have been to Chicago a few times and we wanted to stay downtown. I read the reviews and must admit I had some concerns. The cab took us to the front door, we were met and they offered to take our luggage. We checked in without ANY problems, they upgraded our room, it was clean, and the staff was very friendly. They were renovating a lot of this but they kept us off those floors. You can't beat the location. Sure it's an older facility, but that's part of the history. We are going back, and we WE WILL stay there again. My Wife is very picky about clean rooms, and she had no concerns. It was clean and very affordable, and our romm was plenty big. When you go to Chicago how much time do you spend in a room anyway?

The doorman was a plus. It had a great location. The elevator to the lobby from the street level was inconvenient. It is an older property.

That was my LAST stay!

For years, Crowne Plaza had the Allerton Hotel....a fine, elegant lady of the Magnificent Mile. Great location to all the hottest spots in the Windy City. And the service was second to none. The manager often even remembered you by name only! Well, something happened last year. New owner or management company or both. Slow, ignorant staff from the curb to the checkout. 180 degree turn around...for the worse. Picture this....a huge muddy footprint in the middle of your room that "is all ready for you". Why only ONE muddy footprint and how did MUD get 20 stories up, I'm not really sure. The next room was dirty, you know, in the corners, paint scuffs, etc. And there is never any reason for the staff to be rude. I guess this is why they run specials now for $99. If you want a tall Motel 6, this is the place. For me, my standards are a little higher than that. I'll not be back due to a rude, uncaring staff, and lower overall standards.

The Allerton's location is excellent.

The Allerton's location is excellent. The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful, particularly a couple of the concierges. This is not a luxury or fine hotel, and after our stay, I was surprised that the overall Travel website rating was so high. The hotel restaurant is currently under construction, so there is a makeshift dining room and bar in the main lobby area, which makes for a less-than-great experience. The elevator situation is really bad -- you must transfer elevators between the ground floor, lobby and room floors, plus we experienced waits of 10 minutes and more to get an elevator. I don't know if this is due to the construction, or not. All things considered, though, the Allerton is a good value.

We stayed one night and I would never

We stayed one night and I would never stay another. The staff was very snobish, the room was dirty, security with bags and our vehicle was less than desired. When we checked in our bags were left for anyone to come in at the ground level and grab, for a significant amount of time. I was actually able to switch out one of my bags without having to show a check ticket. The registration desk acted very snobish towards us. Our bathroom had several hairs (that were not ours) in it when we arrived. When we were finally allowed to check in (not till after three) and our bags were brought to the room the bellman forgot one of our bags. The problem here is he didn't call me to tell me, he just waited to see if I would call because when I called he knew exactly who it was and what bag before I even told him who it was or the room (it was very odd). When we left we didn't
even have to show our valet parking ticket, they just handed us the keys. It doesn't make you feel very secure about your things. If your a Bears fan I don't recommend this hotel, we wore our Bears shirts in and you would think we had the plague by the way they treated us. If you like feeling like you need to FLAUNT your money in order to be treated well this is the place for you.
