I had to deal with the smell of smoke in this room and also in my clothes as I traveled around Charlotte. I can't stand when you're in a professional business and you act ghetto, and then make it a big deal when I switched the room type from a regular room to handicap to stay downstairs, it was like the worst thing in the world to her. At least this time the carpet was newer, I ran straight into the bathroom, there was a HUGE booger halfway painted on the wall, enough of it wasn't covered where you couldn't tell what it was, it was clear as day, I called my fiance in and we both started laughing, second thing - there was a dead roach underneath the air conditioning unit, how good does their 80 yr old maid clean, exactly? Later that night, my fiance turned down the comforter and he laid down, and something poked him in the leg, it was a rotten toenail, the sheets smelt clean, my pillow case was wet, along with the side of the bed closest to the wall and keep in mind, they NEVER clean the top comforters. I would recommend this hotel because you really can't go wrong, and unlike some people, I can laugh at the little things, if you're critical on your hotel rooms please, do not stay here, you might as well go downtown and get a room at the Hilton. I paid 45.00 for one night thru hotels.com, and it was fine for my money, I was satisfied regardless of the staff, the little things in the room. We were disgusted by not only the condition of the rooms, but the lack of maintenance and service. We had to change rooms due to a mold problem in the bathroom of our first room. The second room was better, it didn't have a stained carpet or mold. However, our sink backed up and exploded at 5 am, we had to make many trips to the office to request clean towels (supposed to be supplied twice a week), our room was not turned down as often as promised (supposed to happen once a week), and the water shut off completely one day due to a leak! The staff never apologized for the issues we brought to their attention and didn't offer any sort of compensation either. Obviously this hotel is not being properly managed or maintained. When I arrived I found little to no evidence that pointed to bugs or dirty sheets. The staff was friendly and helped me find the job site as well as resturants in the area. We almost gagged at the stench of the room. there is only one way to describe it. it is as if someone vomited on the carpet and they did a horrible job on cleaning it. this the way it smelled. after we entered the room and turned on the lights. we was in shock visually. roaches everywhere and i am not exaggerating the amount a saw. the roaches were on the bed, walls, coffee maker, sink, and even in the toilet. we were amazed. we actually contemplated on staying the night. We killed as many as we could, but they kept crawling out from god knows where. after seeing the amount of roaches there, we couldn't even conceive how many that could be under the sheets and what other insects/bugs there may be in the room as well. we immediately went back to the front desk, but to my surprise. no one is there. Not even a contact number! i stayed at the front desk for about 25 minutes and hoped someone would come, but nope. no one at all. we decided that it would be best to just stayed at our friends house. We then had a queen bed with standard double bed sheets! The "full kitchen" had no pots, pans or utensils. When I complained, I was given one pan with a lid that didn't fit. I asked the manageress how it could be called a full kitchen when I could not even cook breakfast in it. She did not seem to understand the concept. I said I could not even make toast but it made no difference to her. We had booked for 3 weeks and thought we would be able to cook most meals there but it was out of the question. The wash basin did not hold water, the spout came off the kitchen tap, soaking me and all around me. The edges and corners of the carpet did not look as if they had ever been cleaned. Service with a smile does not happen there, nor even much without a smile. There was only one comfy chair.
