The service was wonderful and the prices were very reasonable for South Beach. My room was nicer than the one at the Ritz and the view was incredible (no view at the Ritz). Overall, this hotel is ideal for South Beach b/c it's close to the bars and restaurants without breaking the bank. This is a good thing, as things are relatively quiet here but you are still very close to the hot action of Miami Beach. The hotel is a jazzed up version of those relatively small, but colorful properties that help make Miami Beach world-famous. The rooms that face the beach and the Atlantic ocean are usually pricier, so I opted instead for one with a city view. My room on a high floor was nice too, and I had a balcony facing west with superb panoramic views. The accommodations were comfortable, although I was surprised to encounter a Marriott with such a tropical color scheme in its soft goods. The amenities such as the large bar of soap were also nice. Since the hotel is basically on the beach, it was invigorating to wake up in the morning and take a walk along the beach. For a few moments it really felt like I was enjoying my private stretch of beach alongside my personal oceanfront. The lobby area leads to the outdoor pool and Jacuzzi in the back, again overlooking the beach. Numerous people were simply incompetent. For example, we had to wait an hour for someone to pick up our luggage when we were departing; another time they took over two hours to deliver us a box that had been promised -- and when it showed up it was not what we had been promised.
