Rooms are pretty small and sparse, although views can be wonderful. Bathrooms are well-appointed. Breakfast is FABULOUS and a good value for a downtown hotel. Lunch is delicious as well. Gym is just so-so. LOVE the location - perfect for shopping. We were greeted and later informed that they did not have a double room ready for us (this was at about 5:00pm). We were offered two complimentary drinks and some snacks while we were waiting for our room or to accept a king room with no wait. No problem for us, we had the drinks (which would have been $12 each for a martini) and then made our way up to the room. I loved the decor of the hotel, very modern and relaxing. I'm not sure what the room rate was, as we were not paying and traveling on business. We were placed in a room on the lower floors and really didn't have a view. I asked to be assigned another room and we were told they were full. Complimentary computers are located on the 2nd and 3rd floors, therefore don't purchase an in-room Wifi or Ethernet connection unless you would like the added privacy. The bathroom was very spacious and had a walk-in shower, separate soaking tub and large vanity with high quality towels and bath products. The Beds were super comfortable (I'll tell you now that I am very selective when it comes to beds in hotels) and this hotel exceeded my expectations. The fitness center could have been nicer, I found it very dark and stuffy, however it contained a large collection of strength and weight equipment along with cardio machines equipped with personal viewing monitors, very nice. Check-out was efficient and quick. EVERYTHING is perfect...from the architecture of the building, to the views, to the temperature, to the service, to the pristine bedding, it is simply the model of European simplicity and sophistication. My boyfriend lived in France and I am a Chicago native with a European upbringing and I have to say that this hotel lives up to and exceeds our expectations each time we go. Additionally, long before I met him, I had been visiting the Sofitel bar for drinks with friends. Everything is somewhat pricey, but certainly well deserved. I would stay there for weeks on end if I could afford it. Oh, and don't forget to order the basket of French pastries in the morning! I decided on Sofitel after reading many positive reviews of the hotel. From the first minute encounter with the Doorman all the way to the Room Delivery we received the hotel went above and beyond expectations. Very friendly staff and more than willing to go the "extra mile" to make your trip special. After checking in and finding out it was my wife's birthday, 30 minutes later we had a knock on our door with a complimentary birthday cake and two bottles of water. The beds are SO comfortable, the bathrooms are gorgeous, and the views were excellent. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Just beware of the Valet guys, they didn't tell me that I would be charged for valet automatically on my bill and he took my full amount of money for the valet. So I was charged twice...But the hotel was very nice about the situation and refunded my charge on the credit card within 24 hours.
