Ramada has been renovated beautifully!

I have a reservation to stay at the Ramada Mall of America for the 4th time in slightly over a year. I go there to relax because it's worry free. The only surprises there have been pleasant surprises.

This is the former Thunderbird Motel

pros: Outstanding customer service, lovely decor, comfy furnishings, free wifi and shuttle serviceThis is the former Thunderbird Motel and while it retains its Native American 'heritage' it is renovated beautifully. The furnishings are very comfortable. The customer service is unsurpassed. The parking is more than adequate, the wifi free, the shuttle is every half hour. It is conveniently located near the Mall of America, the airport and is right next to Ikea. It is truly a best buy. I am not sure all the rooms are renovated, so be sure to ask for a remodeled room.

My husband and I arrived for our

My husband and I arrived for our weekend getaway. The room we rented was a jacuzzi suite. The room was clean, however, it is terribly outdated!! The furniture was literally falling apart and didn't go together. The bed was uncomfortable and the TV was very small for the room. The microwave was actually in the cabinet right under the TV. For the price ($259 per night), it wasn't a good deal. We did, however, enjoy the fact that there is a lounge and a comedey club! THAT is a great option. This hotel has A LOT of potential, tons of rooms and the pool looked fun. BUT if they don't update it and get rid of the crappy furniture and fixtures, they will be soon losing $$$ bigtime. Also, was not so impressed with the front desk "friendly-ness" --or I should say lack of. Wish I had a ton of $$ because I'd buy it in a heartbeat and turn it around!!

Was forced here after a missed

Was forced here after a missed connection. Front desk staff was very helpful and understanding. Rooms are terribly outdated. No convenient power outlets. Room looked grungy. Awkward heating/cooling system within rooms. Shuttles were convenient (every 30 minutes). The room service/restaurant closes at 10:00 p.m., which is awfully early. Beds were uncomfortable. Shower/WC room was extremely small. Plumbing fixtures leaked. Clearly the property needs a major renovation.

This was terrible. Reserved a room

This was terrible. Reserved a room with two queen beds and park and stay. Arrived and had to pay $40 extra for park and stay, got room with two twin beds, had to order two extra cots ($20 each). Got in the bathroom to find no shower curtain - called the front desk once and housekeeping twice only to get promised someone would bring up a curtain. After waiting two hours no one came; had to shower without a curtain - water everywhere. Reserved the shuttle for 4:30am, didn't get picked up until 5:10am; just made our 6:00am flight after rushing through the airport.
DO NOT STAY HERE; only good thing was closeness to airport.

I would have rather slept in a teepee

I boarded the hotel shuttle from the airport, only to be squashed by the huge number of passengers crammed into the tiny shuttle. There was not even enough room for a family with small children so they had to wait for another shuttle. The shuttle didn't come often enough, I asked the driver if this was pretty common, and he said that it was like that all the time.

1. get more shuttles

Once we got to the hotel, I was first in line at the check in counter and asked the desk clerk if they were going to call someone to help him with the line of 20 people behind me. He said he was on his own! These people behind me probably had to wait a half hour in line just to get to their rooms because the hotel was understaffed.

2. get more desk staff

I got to my non smoking room. I turned on the lights and noticed there were cigarette burn holes in the comforter. I took a shower and the water wouldn't drain. I went to go to sleep and the pillows were so overstuffed that they were pretty close to unusable, laid down in the bed and it was worn down to the inner spring, poking me in the back while my feet hung off the edge of this tiny bed. I'm 6'2", not the tallest person in the world.

3. get new beds, comforters, shower drains

I am never visiting this awful faux-indian lodge again.

To our surprise, our last minute deal

To our surprise, our last minute deal was my much beloved Thunderbird Motel that I thought was so 'cool' when growing up and visiting relatives. This motel is perfectly located for shopping at MOA or Ikea. Also a good place to stay if you want to fly out of town since the airports are so near and the shuttle runs for 24 hours.Rooms are older, but very clean. The view isn't much, but the decorations depict our Minnesota heritage of the American Indian, and a wonderful display of that culture. The courtyard is lovely and the pool area is great. I would definately go again, or take people there to stay while waiting for thier flight.

It took forever to check in, the staff

It took forever to check in, the staff member wasn;t very helpful. We got to our room and it smelled horrible!! It was musty smelling. We left and came back late at night. The security doors to the hotel were wide open and were never locked durning the night. The beds were lumpy and we could not get the room an even temp. In the middle of the night our daughter had an allergic reaction: from BLACK MOLD on the ceiling tiles!!!! In the morning we attempted to take showers but the drain was broke and we overflowed the tiny shower. They gave us a coffe pot, but no plug in to operate it with?? I expressed all the concerns with the front desk upon check out and she laughed at me. I would never recommend staying here, it cost us $* for the night and it was maybe, and I mean maybe worth $* a night if that!! Far as I'm concerned we should of been comp'ed for our room, I mean really BLACK MOLD??????
