All Review Photos On our second trip

All Review Photos On our second trip to Rome, we wanted a hotel near the Borghese Gardens in order to visit the Galleria Nationale d' Arte Moderna & the Galleria Borghese. The Principessa is a small hotel. There was a lift to the upper floors, always a plus, but literature from our travel agent indicated that the Principessa had air-conditioned rooms. That may be, but our room did not, unless you count an open window. Our bed was hard as a rock and lumpy. The water in the bathtub dripped all night long. We did have a safe and a tv in the room, along with a small desk and chair. The only pluses were the location relative to where we wanted to be this time (though not that close to major sights except the Borghese and the Spanish Steps). The other plus was the breakfast room, which was a lovely room, with an adequate breakfast.

Location.Tiny room; shower leaked all over the bathroom floor; ac was poor.“Great location, everything else needs a major update. Paint, cleaning and plumbing need updates. The room was extremely small. There was not enough room for our luggage and us. The hotel offered to store our luggage in another room, but what good does that do you?”

sad to hear that

We stayed there in 3/97 and everything was WONDERFUL! We had been in a hotel around the corner the night before paying $210.00 a night for the same accommodations. Apparently the staff and management have changed over the years. We are returning in 08 and were planning on staying there. Glad I read this!

Bad! Bad! Bad

Avoid this hotel. I should have done, but failed to read reviews before booking.

They charged us 117 euros rather than the agreed price of 101 euros on the booking form, but had some slippery story about promotions and time of year. They also insisted on charging before we stayed. I know it sounds ridiculous to go along with this but Rome was full and the chances of getting anything else below 200 euros at 7.00 p.m. were not even worth thinking about.

It is not at all near anywhere it claims to be. The very top of Via Veneto is about 10 minutes away, but Barberini is a good 15 minutes away. Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps are much further away.

There was no safe in the room, as claimed. We had a three quarter size bed and single sheets/blankets. I asked very politely for bigger bedding, but none was forthcoming.

The bath had the wrong sized plug so we had to block the hole with toilet tissue to have a bath, in which we had no choice because the shower did not work. The plug in the sink did not work because an oversized mirror had been put up which prevented the plug lever from closing the plug. I had to do an Archimedian experiment every time I shaved, to ensure that the flow of water from the tap equalled the flow down the plug hole. The bidet also had no plug. When I complained I was told that there was difficulty getting the correct plugs and that it all Rome Hotels had this problem!! Come on!! Rome is not the third world and anyway, what about phoning Florence or Naples or somewhere!!

The air conditioning was working. When I asked about this they said that for them it was cold so air conditioning was not on anywhere in Rome. It was October 25 2005 and you can check - it was 25 degrees that day and the night was very humid.

On the final full day we returned to find that room service had not been and replaced toilet roll or changed the towels - two of which we had had to use to mop up the flood caused by the rogue shower head that did not work properly. I had lost the will to even complain by this time so I just asked for toilet roll at Reception, whereupon they proceeded to check whether room service had been done. On realising that it had not they then sent for two toilet rolls but did not bring towels.

The room we had was clearly for a single booking, of which there seemed to be plenty at breakfast. I suspect they do cheap accomodation for workers such as drivers who need the occasional night. I doubt very much that they paid anything like what we paid for such poor accomodation.

Add to all this the fact that we were on the ground floor, near Reception, and there were people coming and going and talking loud throughout the night, waking us up, and you have a depressing picture.

Rome is still a brilliant place and Romans are still brilliant, warm and friendly people - but DO NOT book this hotel.

I have found that I have to give at least a one star rating for this to be accepted. This place was cleanish, if very shabby, but did not deserve any stars. The advertising bumf claims it to be tree star hotel. Even they do not claim that when you get there!! It is a no star hotel.

Avoid this one

This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in, in my life. The rooms are small, cramped, poor lightening, extremely tiny bathtubs, unclean, bugs, and staff gave misinformation about taxis, directions, trains and anything else asked of them. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. It is the worst I've ever seen. Very over priced as well for rooms. Terrible, just terrible. Also, it is very far from any of the tourist areas. Too far to walk anyway.
