Filthy and Unclean

The owners/managers were surly, rude, inattentive, unresponsive dolts. When we requested clean towels, we were told none were available and that guests usually bring their own. The so-called continental breakfast was comprised of orange juice and a stale muffin cut in half. The swimming pool had mold and evidently was not cleaned since last spring. The bathroom had been updated (thirty years ago). No soap, shampoo or hand towels were available. Lastly, our credit card was overcharged without our permission even though we paid cash. Fellow travelers should avoid this dump at all cost and expense even if you have to stay at the Midnite Mission.

Dirtiest hotel room I've ever seen

The room was dirty from carpets to chair cushion. The blankets were old, full of cigarette burn holes, and someone's hair. Pillows had mystery stains on them. The bathroom was poorly remodeled, and they did not provide anything but 2 bars of soap. We stayed for 1 night and were all grossed out by the entire experience. We also wondered about our credit card being run 2 or 3 times, and a nice but confused staff not quite able to explain why. We paid about $75 for a night, and did not feel the room was worth more than $35 in its condition. "Bfast" was muffins cut into little pieces. Will never return or recommend. Stay away.

Good basic clean hotel

Considering where it is located, this is a very good deal. It's nothing special, but the price is right, the place is clean, the people are nice enough, but it's a motel, so you don't have lots of interaction. It's a good base to visit the sights of the Monterey Bay area.

The worst experence I every had.

The main thing is the worst customer service I have ever experenced. My problem was they'll charge your credit card for things you didn't use. I am currently in dispute with my credit card company which has taken 4 months now. They don't want to respond to my credit card company. I will never show myself there in the future. Careful everyone they don't disclose their complete policies at time of booking. They can cheat you if your not properly informed.

Excellent Motel

Using the free wireless right now in the motel to write this. Excellent place, fabulously remodeled for its age, fantasticly clean, well landscaped, wonderful owners/managers, very pleasant. Right across the street from a major mall, just a short 5-10 min drive to wherever you want to go in Monterey/Cannery Row. Couldn't believe the price compared to what's being charged a few blocks away when all you are is a little closer...Excellent value...You truly get more than you pay for! Pools not heated, but who can use a pool in Monterey anyway? Spa would be a great addition someday, but then they'd have to raise the prices!! Will stay again anytime...

You get what you pay for!!

We took our grandchildren to Monterey for a couple of days and stayed at this motel. We got a 2 bedroom family unit. There was 1 bathroom, 1 TV, the queen size bed was the same size as the double. The pool was dirty, the ice machine didn"t work, the continental breakfast was a 1/2 cup juice and the little muffins were cut in half. The towels were worn and when getting ready to leave gathering our stuff there was a baby pacifier under the bed and my kids are 13,14 & 15. There was also a no smoking policy for the property and the people next door were smoking by the front door..

Very friendly

Padre Oaks is a great alternative to high priced hotels. It's very clean and the owners are extremely pleasant. There aren't any frills - but the money you save here you can use out on the town. With everything else so expensive, you'll be glad you stayed here!

Clean and cheap

pros: clean, cheap, locationWe paid $45 for a Friday night in November 2005. That price was at least $20 less than other motels in the area for the same night. Fine to spend a night or 2 but not for a romantic getaway.

Plus:
Cheap!
Really clean
Fridge in the room
Decent shower pressure
Ample hot water
Cable tv
Table + 2 chairs for eating in the room
Coffee maker in the room (we didn't use it)
Near Highway 1
Near Del Monte shopping center

Minus:
THIN walls
Able to clearly hear outside noise
Towels are quite thin and worn but appeared clean
Flat pillows (I brought my own since we were on a road trip)
