      <title>Baby Broadmoor in Training</title>
      <link>http://www.travelpost.com//hotels/Omni_Bedford_Springs_Resort/r380478</link>
<description>I stumbled across this newly reopened resort while driving across country. It was a delicious surprise, especially since I was expecting to stay that night at a motel. The resort has been meticulously restored to its former glory. 100 years ago, it was a fashionable getaway with restorative hot springs. You can't bathe in the springs anymore but you can drink them from the bottled water in your room and they are delicious. The serene, woodsy surroundings are gorgeous. The room service arrived quickly and, when they learned they were out of the wine I had ordered, they comped me a bottle of a different brand. In some ways, the place reminded me of the famous Broadmoor Hotel/resort in Colorado Springs. However, it has a ways to go before it reaches that level of service. (It's already as or more expensive!) Mainly, the resort had so many niggly rules that the customer-is-always-right, five-star Broadmoor-level service just isn't possible. Dogs, for instance, must be less than 25 pounds to stay at the resort. To his credit, the desk clerk made an exception for me, probably because it was a slow night, and "allowed" me to pay $150 for my 95-pound dog. When I jogged through the empty golf course the next morning, a guy in a golf cart zoomed up behind me and ordered me off the course--another rule. Finally, when no appointments were available that morning at the spa, I asked if I could simply purchase a pass that would permit me to use the whirlpool, etc. No, I was told. The rules again. I then asked if I could simply tour the spa which I was sure would be as beautiful as the rest of the hotel. Another rule was trotted out. "No, for the safety, security and privacy of our guests, you may not," I was curtly informed. Wasn't I guest? I had paid $259 for my room, plus the dog fee, plus spent $75 or so on room service! If this hotel aspires to provide the level of service its prices suggest, it needs to do a better job of catering to guests. However, until then, it is still a delightful oasis of luxury and history.</description>
