The Railway Inn was in the perfect spot for all the shopping and wine touring that I wanted to do. The rooms were very cozy but plenty of room for my husband and myself. I recommend this Inn and I will definitely stay there again.

unique and affordable

I recently stayed at the Railway Inn for 3 nights and had a terrific time. The location is excellent... Really couldn't be better for hopping on the highway and going wine tasting up north... One day we chose to relax and stroll around the quaint town of Yountville... The Railway Inn was in the middle of it all! We stayed in a caboose, and loved the clerestory windows that let the sunlight in the morning. This is a family owned inn that has small town charm written all over it. The manager, who was helpful with tour suggestions, was there during the normal business hours (9-5 ish), which was not a problem for us... I'm not the type to need hand-holding while on vacation... If you are searching for a convenient, clean and unique place to stay- look no further. I will definitely be back....

GREAT STAY

After seeing the Napa Valley Railway Inn featured on The Today Show as a great place to stay decided to give them a call.
Reservationist assured me that all "kinks" had been worked out by the new owners. So happy we did. Clean rooms, office is now staffed. Refrigerators, Flat screen T.V's with at least 10 channels. Location, Location, Location a plus. Highly recommend it.

poor service without having stayed there!

After reading the other reviews of this place I now understand why I received such poor service when trying to book a room here. The first time I called, a woman answered the phone. She asked me to hold. No problem, except instead of placing me on hold she just laid the phone down, so that I could hear her entire conversation with another party. While "holding" for approximately 15 minutes (long distance)I was then cut off. No one bothered to call me back (I do not have caller id blocking on my phone #). I gave them a second chance and called on a Friday at 1:30 pm. The phone just rang and rang and rang. No answer, no answering machine. I won't bother calling again to find out rates or availability. What must the rest of their service be like if they can't even answer the phone? Business must be good if they can treat customers this way. Maybe she was at the nearby gym?! I will stay in Napa.

Somewhat Disappointed

What a nice way to spend a couple of nights in quaint Yountville. A nostalgic railcar converted to a room, instead of the typical hotel room. Below, a few Pros & Cons to describe our experience....

Pros:
-Great location in central Yountville, walking distance to shops, groceries, and restaurants.
-Clean room, appeared newly remodeled, nice carpet, furniture, etc...
-Economically priced compared to the area.

Cons:
- We never noticed anyone manning the front desk. We had to ask for assistance at the health/Fitness club next door. The person at the fitness club was only there to check people in and pass out room keys. They had NO information on the Inn at all. This was very inconvenient.
- No room phones... but who cares, there's no front desk!
- Old school room heater & A/C, not thermostatically controlled. Had to jump out of bed and control the heater manually. Either an icebox or a blast furnace. Are the railcars insulated?
- We were in the caboose room 2, right next to the street. Don't plan on sleeping past 6;00am. The trash trucks and landscaping crews just a few feet away will make sure of that. Again, maybe the train cars are hurting a little on insulation.

We tried to voice our disappointments to the health club attendent who quickly handed us a phone number to call. The person at the end of the phone could only tell us that we needed to speak to someone else, (Manager, Owner?) who would call us back at a later time. That's never happened.

Recommendation: Spend a few more dollars for one of the nicer spots unless the Rail Way Inn is a last resort. We won't be back.

Railway Inn Misses The Train

Wow, when I first saw the Railway Inn I thought it would be a great and interesting way to spend our weekend in beautiful Yountville and stay in an an actual Railway Car. I was absolutely wrong.

There are 9 Train cars converted into private rooms (as seen on their website). Unfortunately the reservations lady conveniently forgot to tell us the room we had booked was not one of the 9 Train Car rooms. It was the "Station House Room" #10 which is not a Train Car at all but more like an attic. In fact it isn't even "on the Napa railroad tracks" as stated on their website. It is located at the end of the line...literally, right next to the room they store all their tools in (Just in case it is tool time).

No phones so bring your cell phone if you have any questions or concerns. The person who checked us in at the Fitness Center (which is attached to the mall that is attached to the train) was kind enough to stop her Cardio exercise to check us in, after feeling as though we were bothering her she was of no help with any information in or around Yountville, or even show us where the room was. She was obviously more concerned with her Heart rate rather than the $178 room rate we had paid.

"Flatscreen in every room" not this one. Didn't matter, the room only had 3 T.V. stations. Other "modern features" included a coffee maker that warmed up the coffee for 45 seconds and then turned off completely. Key word; warm, luke warm.
Unlike the shower (no tub), the sign stated don’t turn on the sink or flush the toilet while using the shower. It will get extremely hot. Good thing they put a sign to warning us!

The Inn is convenient to downtown and plenty of parking too as it is crammed in between 2 mall parking lots. So I should give them at least 1 star for tons of available parking.

In short this place is more like a BOO HOO than a CHOO CHOO. Be fare, give people what you advertise.

I called to later notify them of feeling mislead and told them I didn't think it was fare to mis-represent their accomadations. Their response: "They thought it was fare."

Great location!! Great Price!! Clean! Remoldeled!!

During a recent family reunion, I booked my family at the NVRI. They loved it!!
All the rooms have been remodeled. My sister was pleased with the cleanliness and decor, and my nephew loved the flat screen TVs. They also liked being able to use the adjacent fitness facility that was free to guests. The location was superb, and I wouldn't put them anywhere else. They didn't even need a car because eveything was in walking distance (Even Thomas Keller's two restaraunts are in walking distance!) On top of that, it is the best price you can find...HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
