Great Funky Place to Stay

Very cool decor that completed the impression of being in a quaint French hotel, even down to current editions of Paris Match and other little touches. The antiques and furnishings made this remodeled turn of the century building feel like a seaside resort I stayed at 20 years ago on the Normandy coast. Secure and convenient to downtown, but not in the thick of the the weekend traffic. Great coffee and beakfast breads in the morning. Not for those seeking plush accomodations, but clean, reasonable and fun.

Not Just a Hotel...an Experience!

We enjoyed our stay at the Metro! It's very funky and unconventional. It's family run so you get to go into the back offices and ask questions. The owners are helpful in guiding you around the area. The decor is original. Room is comfortalbe, bathroom clean, parking easy. I highly recommend the Metro.

Ghost Hotel

There is no staff in the hotel at night. The only contact is to the the owner by cell phone. As there were no telephones in rooms, even those with outside doors, it's a potentially dangerous situation, in my opinion. Room lacked individual temperature control. Although the neighborhood is quiet, the road is noisy.

Merci Metro for such a pleasant stay

The Metro Hotel is truely a jewel in Petaluma and the surrounding wine country and coast. We loved its independantly owned flair and its wonderful French character, decor and ambiance. We truely felt transported in place and time when staying here. More than just a place to stay, this Hotel is distinct in its class and provided with us a charming experience. We will definitely come again and recommand it around us to friends and family.

Labor Day 06 Stay

Thought I would write comments since some of the listed reviews seem dated.
We stayed at the Metro on the Labor Day Weekend '06. We read all the old negative comments and the later positive comments. This was a great hotel for us. We search out the non traditional hotels like the Gonzo Inn in Moab or the El Rey in Santa Fe or the Hotel San Jose in Austin. Some things to know about the Metro. No room phones or air conditioning. We took a small box fan with us and that worked fine. The tub can be a little slippery and might be awkward for some older folks to get in and out of. There is some foot noise in the hotel due to the hardwoods, but our fan noise muffled that. Don't exspect much for breakfast. I had to make coffee on 2 mornings when it ran out. To me, thats no big deal. It made me feel more at home. As far as the owners go, it's not important to us for the owners to be there to kiss out butts. They seem to be quiet, gracious owners that are around if you need them. The only other thing is a few older women complained that there was no elavator to the second floor. Whatever..
The Thai restaurant, Sea, has opened next door. We ate there 3 nights. Fresh, clean and great service.
Ask for room 77. Way cool. We will stay here again on our next trip to Petaluma.

great alternative to a motel

This is a very comfortable small hotel, loaded with charm. My husband & I were going to a fancy event at a winery, & we didn't want to stay at a bland motel. For the same price, we got an excellent room here w/a delightfully soft bed, a flat-screen TV (that you could plug a computer or DVD player into), large bathroom w/claw-foot tub, & an excellent location near downtown (tho' not quite walking distance). Every area was decorated w/lovely vintage French accents. We did have to ask for the morning coffee & pastries that were promised, but no big deal. Some construction was going on in the area next to our room in the back, but we were forewarned & they didn't start too early in the morning. We were very satisfied w/our stay. Great value, very comfortable, & pretty to look at.

Look no farther!!

Look no farther!

This is the place to stay! My visit to Metro Hotel couldn’t have been better. I stayed for one night in early June while on a day trip from the East Bay, but I would recommend this spot for any length stay. Sonoma and Napa are close enough for me to travel roundtrip in one day and I’ve made the trip countless times. However my visits are just too short! I’ve often wanted to spend a night in the wine country but often found the cost of nice bed and breakfast style accommodations way too expensive. Well I’ve found the solution! Metro Hotel is a stylish and trendy hotel with a classic, traditional French feel right in the wine country at a fraction of the cost.

The timeless yet contemporary European atmosphere is unmistakable as you approach the building. Attention to detail carries the fun French feel into the quaint lobby, café, and into each room. From the claw footed tub and porcelain bathroom fixtures to the geese footed bed, each detail reminded me that I was in an extraordinary comfortable yet unique place.

I would recommend this stay for couples both young and old. If it’s your first visit to the California Wine Country and you’re looking for a touch of nightlife and shopping this is a great choice. Metro Hotel’s also perfect for the couple that makes countless trips to the wine country and is looking to rediscover the wine country in a different light.

The hotel is within walking distance of the downtown area that has been given a makeover in the past several years. Set right along the river, the downtown area offers shopping, fine dinning, a theater and numerous places to enjoy the atmosphere of the eclectic city.

I can't say enough nice things about the owners, the atmoshpere and overall stay. Look no farther, book a room!
