Beware: Bedbugs

I checked into the Latham at 11:00 pm on a Friday night and went directly to sleep. I awoke at 1:30 am to itchiness and discomfort. I turned on the light to find the bed CRAWLING WITH BED BUGS. At least two dozen stood out on the white sheets. When I went to crush the bugs, they were engorged with my blood. The desk clerk told me that I needed to complain to the manager, who would not be in until after I had checked out. I left several messages, but none were returned.

Stay here only if you like bed bugs!

We stayed there only one night but would come back again. It is in the downtown - you can walk everywhere, easy to find. the staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and commodious. It is worth its money.

We stay at the lathan all the time, the valet parking is great, its around all the main stores on walnut st, barnes and noble many places to eat, and transportation. its not big bit its cozy private and not a dump.I like the bar/resturante down stairs free internet and gym. no room service, but if you want to go to the waldorf book there. this is cozy and quiet.

So sad - this used to be a great little hotel, and it is in a wonderful area of the city. But it is old, dirty, they closed the restaurant months ago but don't tell you that when you register. What city hotel doesn't have room service?
Clearly they are struggling financially and cutting every corner they can. They even de-commissioned the ice machines except on 2 floors - but they don't tell you that either.I would not have minded if they told us the truth when we reserved, but they did not.
Dirty also - I think it has been a very long time since the bedspread has been cleaned.I won't stay there again, and I used to love it. Very sad.

I had high hopes when I originally booked the hotel. The website (though a little outdated) gave positive information and decent pictures. When I arrived at the hotel, it was obvious that the photos had been taken many years ago. The rooms were relatively clean, the bathrooms updated however the bedding was very outdated (probably from the 80's), and the furniture had no finish. It's as if the furniture had been acquired from Goodwill with no repair or refinish.
The bed was very springy (it squeaked), the ice maker on the 10th floor did not work and the restaurant was boarded up and the staff had no idea when it might re-open.
While the hotel offers itself as a three-star hotel, it is more likely that it should be a one-star hotel.
Pay the few extra dollars and stay elsewhere. This hotel is NO bargain.

Overall, I was happy with my stay at the hotel. What stood out for me was the great customer service I received from the front desk and the Doorman. I would definitely stay here again.

My opinion of this Philly hotel in a nutshell is EXCELLENT! Everything about this place I would highly recommend. Great location, comfortable, great view, great value, friendly staff, etc.
With that being said it made our trip that much more enjoyable!K. Wuest

avoid this hotel

When I arrived the room style I had booked was unavailable as they had over booked so they down graded my room. the wireless internet worked ok but cut out about once an hour.
I called for a wake up call the first evening of my stay. I never was called the next morning and was over an hour late to a conference I was attending and there was no record of me requesting a wake up call, but evidence I had called down in the internal logging system
The manager left me a message saying there were going to discount the first night to half the price I was paying and still charge full price the second night
When my bill came during the 2nd evening of my stay the room was still charged at the higher rate for both nights. it took 10 minutes at the front desk and a disbelieving desk clerk to get it fixed
the water pressure also was lacking
this hotel has a nice location but there are much better similar hotels with similar prices right in the same 3 block area.
I would not recommend this hotel to anybody

The room design was refreshing in the sense that it did not use the cookie cutter hotel furniture and room layout you normally encounter; instead the room was furnished to have a European feel. That was interesting and caught my attention. While it was apparent that it had been a while since the hotel went through a major renovation, that in itself gave the hotel its own unique charm and character. The valet parking service was a beneficial feature. The staff was helpful, courteous, and polite. I would stay at the Latham Hotel again in the future.

The Latham hotel was great. I read reviews that it wasn't so good but I loved it and would definitely stay there again. The room that I stayed in was not tiny, but we did get a room with double beds instead of just a queen. The room was very clean and the staff was very friendly. It is a very cute hotel and it was within walking distance of everything we wanted to see because the blocks there are very small. Nothing that we wanted to see, besides the art museum was more than a mile away. I highly recommend this hotel.
