This was a great choice for a hotel in Wausau! We took advantage of the free shuttle to Granite Peak. It's location was perfect - middle of downtown where there are plenty of shops, restaurants and bars. The pool is small, but we didn't care because we only spent time in the hot tub (plenty big). The workout room is very nice - they even have a weight machine, which I don't see often in hotels. The breakfast was good - they served croissants, pastries, toast, coffee, juice, hot and cold cereal, hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, and fresh fruit. For an extra fee you can get an omelette, but we didn't need anything else. The room was clean and comfy. They must have had about 6 pillows on the bed!! I didn't think the price was high at all - well worth it. If we come back to Wausau, we'll definitely stay here again.

Unbeatable value

I know another person said this hotel is too expensive, but I travel a LOT and can tell you that you won't beat the value at Jefferson Street anywhere for the same price. The staff is awesome, so professional and friendly. Even the basic rooms are tastefully decorated and very comfortable. You will sleep like you're on a cloud. I think most rooms have a fridge and microwave, along with a snack bar and mini-bar (yes there's a cost, but it's in the room, which is very convenient). The hotel provides Aveda shampoos and soaps, not the cheap stuff that dries out your skin and hair. The restaurant is outstanding, and I've tried everything from salads to fish to chicken and beef dishes. The drinks at happy hour will make you wish every hour was happy hour. I stay here every time I am in Wausau, and even try to if I'm just passing through. It's perfect for business or pleasure.

I usually stick to chains when choosing

I usually stick to chains when choosing a motel/hotel but found this on the internet and decided I wanted to stay here! I needed two rooms because I was taking my children and their friends to the ballet, Sleeping Beauty at the Grand Theatre in May. The price quoted (per room) on the phone was more than I could afford, so I took a chance-I showed up unannounced, on the Saturday of the ballet, and they luckily had two connecting rooms and gave me a GREAT price, per room, so we stayed. I have never stayed in downtown Wausau and I was pleasantly surprised. We had a view of the park and the theater from our rooms. The rooms were REALLY nice, roomy, with extra pillows. The connecting rooms was a must for me with five kids, and boy did we have fun. The pool was very small but there was a hot tub, the decor was nice-plants. The staff was awesome, very friendly. The continental breakfast was held in the restaurant that connected to the lobby and was very nice, well presented and full of nutritious choices as well as danishes. The restaurant was nicely appointed-go and look up at the odd piece of hanging art??? We spent the whole time looking at it and identifying different items used in this piece! We didn't have a chance to eat a lunch or dinner there but the menu had some items I would have liked to try. The mall is RIGHT there, the parking is very convenient, the downtown has been somewhat revitalized with neat shops. The best time I've had in a long time!

Wausau's Delight

Coming from Northern California, I was not knowing what to expect from Wausau, Wisconson. What a delight I found at the Jefferson Inn. From the courteous front-desk staff, the very well appointed sleek and crisp design of the suite rooms, to the extra touches and surprises that made the hotel room a fantastic finding in Wausau. I had plans to stay elsewhere in Wisconson, but made sure to come back to Wausau to spend my final days in the comfort of the hotel.

Now, the resturant and bar. Kudos to the chef! The happy hour is well worth staying for. The spotted cow beer and the maytag blue cheese and blue chips were out of this world. If you haven't tried it, you are in for a treat! How I wish we could have something so wonderful in my area.

So, what I would say to you is.... go to Wausau, visit a town with lots of character and stay for the best time you'll ever have meeting new friends and savoring what Wisconson has to offer.

Exquisite views of Rib Mountain

The service is first rate, personal and friendly. The rates are reasonable considering the degree of luxury we found ourselves surrounded by. Downtown Wausau is actually pretty vibrant. We spent our day shopping in the one-of-a-kind boutique shops and spent an evening at the performing arts theater after a fine meal at the Back When Cafe. Kelly's Martini Bar was a fine place to gather after the show. We're definitely coming back.
