At $*** we expected something special. Room was small, noisy and did not have the promised view of the plaza lights. Elevator shaft across the hall was busy all night. Neighbors ironed pants - banging the wall... heard them talking. Food at the party we attended was generic - egg rolls and quiches from Sam's. Very disappointed.

It's not exactly what I expected

My colleagues and I stayed here for a business trip in July. It was about a 45 min drive from the airport. That was the only down side about the location. It was less than a five minute walk to all the shopping and restaurants.

The hotel décor was highly unattractive. There was modern art mixed with traditional art. I was under the impression they were redecorating but that was not case. The elevators need to be replaced. It seems like they want to keep the traditions of the older hotel and mix it with a modern up to date style. It’s not hard to accomplish but this hotel made it look very tacky. The lighting was off and it just made the lobby look very drab.

The hotel staff was very nice and prompt. They handled each and every one of our changes. I did have a rude encounter with a bellman but it was handled appropriately by the manager. Outside of him everyone else was excellent.

In my opinion the area of the hotel where business meetings are meant to be held was not appropriate. They aren’t meant to hold large meetings. They have these obnoxious pillars in the middle of the room that obstructed peoples view. Also it smelled very old down there. The food for lunch that they brought us was decent at best. But anything we needed they did their best. Breakfast however was excellent. The short glimpse of the ballroom was very nice. The carpets just needed to be cleaned.

I did not get to experience the pool or the hotel restaurant but there were always people down there in the pool. The gym was very up to date. The hotel restaurant also had lounge and outside area to eat.

The rooms were ok. Whoever did their decorating should be fired. The carpet didn’t match anything it all goes back to modern vs. traditional. The wall paint was pretty modern but the carpet was traditional. I had an excellent view of the shopping mall and Brush Creek. Each room has a balcony and you can stand out there and enjoy your evenings. The bed was very comfortable.

When I was checking out there was a $17 dollar charge for parking and I didn’t drive. The concierge took care of it and everything was fine.

This hotel should be used for family events and TINY conferences.

Good location, nice rooms.Although

Good location, nice rooms.Although rooms newly decorated, plumbing is a problem.“When my son and I checked in initially at 10:30pm, there was live entertainment in the hotel lobby which was very loud and many adults wandering around with drinks in hand, etc. This is fine if noise level is not intrusive into customers' rooms. We were given room, which was not only the size of a matchbook, but was obviously right over the entertainment in the lobby. Sleeping would have been out of the question. I angrily went back to the desk and asked them how dare they rent out such a room to anyone, especially when they saw my son was with me and sleep was important for a sports event he had the next day. Even though they told me they had no rooms, I was not budging and somehow they found another room. One should expect to be able to sleep when one checks into a hotel, no matter what the fee is. The room we were in had highly variable water supply in the shower, from not getting warm enough, to being burned. New decor, old pipes. I called to ask someone to come look at it when we would be out the next day, but no one ever came. Maid never came to straighten room until 5 pm at which time we were back at room and showering to go out to eat. I have not seen my final bill yet, so I am not sure what they charged me for this room.”

It was pretty. It was a complete nickel and dimming establishment. Staff unhelpful.“They also made us feel like we were charged for every minor thing, and at a nice hotel, some amenities should be part of the price you pay, but in this regard, the Intercontinental was more like the Budget Hotel or Holiday Inn.”

I'm pretty sure they don't have any

I'm pretty sure they don't have any kind of training for their servers. Our server for our Saturday night meal was completely unaware of any standard dining protocol. It started when I requested a wine recommendation for our steak and he grabbed the wine menu from me, turned to the whites and said, "These two are pretty good." Later I had to prompt him to bring serving plates for our apps! I would have been angry if it wasn't so obvious that he simply had no idea what he was expected to do for service in a fine dining restaurant. And it wasn't just him, there were a few other food runners, etc. which we encountered and they all seemed very out of place... I guess it says it all that we went to a chain restaurant for lunch the next day and we both commented that our server there was a remarkable contrast in terms of professionalism from what we had seen the night before. Sad.
