Magnificent facility, Unbelievable price

It is a private club founded in 1862 to help Lincoln fund the civil war. Ask for a tour- well worth it. The building is amazing. It is in the shadow of City Hall in a neighborhood the locals call "Center City." I saw the earlier review and the reviewer was just cranky. They make it clear that to use the club portion (including restaurants) men need a jacket (no tie) and ladies need to be appropriately attired. No Jeans, they get annoyed if you try. But it is such a formal setting I would feel stupid wearing jeans.

The artwork in the building was amazing. As was the Civil War Library. The drinks in the cafe were too heavy handed for my taste and the food was decent but not great- but there must be 100 restaurants within a 2 block radius. The Gym was great for a hotel but not a spa by any means. They give you workout clothes and towels to use.

The price is astounding it is $165 a night and includes a white linen breakfast. The park Hyatt two blocks away is $400 a night.

This place was an experience. We loved it.

All staff members were rude

Every single staff member at this hotel was downright rude. They acted put out when you asked for anything, even more coffee at breakfast. The staff would stop you wherever you were walking in the hotel and ask, "Where are you going?" This was to prevent you from, God forbid, going where you didn't belong or the "members only" areas. When your attire was not appropriate you were reprimanded when a simple smile and a reminder of the dress code would have been fine. Our family had a breakfast buffet until 11am the morning after the wedding and the servers stopped serving us at 10:30 and rushed us through breakfast.

The food at dinner was mediocre, but the breakfast was horrible. The rooms need updating. Our room had old peeling wallpaper.

I will say that this Hotel is in a great location and the hotel decor is very nice, but it's not worth it. Unless you're a masochist and like being looked down on, go down the street to the Park Hyatt. It's steps away and it was one of the best hotel experiences I've ever had.
