DO NOT STAY HERE! It should be condemed!

This was, by far, the most disgusting hotel that I've ever seen! We were skeptikal about checking in because it looked abandoned. We could barely stand the horrible smell as we were walking down the very dark hall to look at the room. Even though we knew we were going to cancel this reservation, we looked anyway. The room was dirty, used soap in the bathroom, dirty towels, they had the ceiling proped up with poles to hold it up just outside. I would like to talk to the person who let this place pass inspection. It should be condemed!!!

I was really expecting a flea bag. What I found was a clean, nicely decorated lobby, and a clean room/bathroom. This place must have cleaned up its act. Its entrance is a little obscure and not well marked though. The owners need to have a modest, well-lit sign at their entrance off Hillendale.I've stayed in major chain low quality inns that charged as if they were, and this wasn't one of them.

We had a room in the second part of the hotel. Our room was musty-smelling. The bathroom was clean, but there was a hole in the ceiling where the ventilation would be. We had a balcony (which the dog loved). The room next to us, you could see from outside that the ceiling had caved in and was uninhabitable. If you just need a bed for a night, this would be an ok place. Don't bring your children here.

Fraudulent billing

The front desk staff here were terrible. I tried to cancel my reservation with the hotel several days in advance. Late cancellation has penalty of one nights stay billed on the reservation. Instead, the staff deliberately impeded my attempts to resolve the issue, and charged the full reservation (3 nights plus tax) in spite of the terms of contract being quite clear that only one night should be billed.

If you would like to get ripped off, this is a great place to stay.
Better luck elsewhere

This should have been $20-30 a night.

This should have been $20-30 a night. Bathroom was filthy. Mold and soap scum so thick you could write in it. The blow dryer was broken and we only had two towels (the room was reserved for three). A leg was falling off the table in our room, and the cloth chairs were stained. We didn't sit in them. Parking lot, grounds, pool, and buildings are old and in bad shape. In fact, entire neighborhood is run down. Not worth the price by any standards. In the morning, my family and I went to the lobby for the free breakfast. Hah! A few mini-muffins, a few bagels, and two pastries were the choice. And NO COFFEE! IN AMERICA! I never heard of such a thing. We went somewhere else. All of us were very disappointed, and I felt like I had been conned. We would not have stayed if I hadn't already paid for the room three days prior. We won't be going back to this hotel. And if this is the standard for Howard Johnson hotels, we won't be staying at any of them ever again.

It is a nice location, close to the highway. The rooms were not as clean as we would have liked. The wireless internet service was intermittent.

To say we were disappointed would be an under statement. Upon entering our room, room # 111, the first thing we noticed was the air conditioning unit did not have lettering or numbers to help you in controling the room temperature; the smoke detector was disconnected; the electrical outlet by the head of the bed was loose and hanging from the wall; in the bathroom the toilet tank cover was replaced by a small piece of plaster board; the floor in the bathroom was constantly slippery. When we arrived in our room we naturally like to slip off our shoes and walk around in stocking feet. BIG MISTAKE, your socks became filthy from the imbedded dirt in the carpet. Futhermore the hallway doors, which were supposed to be key card activated were always open or ajar. To add insult to injury the ice machines did not work. Every time you would need ice you would have to go to the front office and request them to fill your ice bucket. On two different occassions my husband had to break up the ice in the ice bags so he could fill the ice bucket. Needless to say we will never stay at this motel again and the experience makes us wonder how you could have ever recommended Howard Johnson in the first place.
