All Review Photos Never have I had an experience requiring a negative review. That is until now. Working at a non-profit organization we’re conscious of costs. So when the usual moderately-priced hotel used by our organization in Geneva was unavailable we trusted a recommendation. Everyone was pleased with the central location and the price point (120 Swiss francs) until we took a look at reviews on the web. We knew we were going to have a problem. We checked in upon arrival in Geneva on a Wednesday morning. The lobby looked just fine but that must be where the owners spent all of their money. A colleague of mine did not even make it up to the elevator. She got that far and turned around saying she was not going to stay there. Hotel Windsor advertises itself as a first-rate, three-star hotel but it provides nothing of the sort. The rooms are small, dirty and house broken furniture. The bathroom was very cramped and some of the tiles and grout were falling out. The shower grout was sprouting mildew. The walls are paper thin and I heard my neighbours coughing lightly. There are no non-smoking rooms. The owner said he did not care whether the patrons smoked in the rooms. Well, some of the patrons might mind! This hotel advertises itself as suitable for the business traveler. There was no Internet access, no business centre and no desk on which to work. The furniture that was provided was actually falling apart. The chair in my room had a split seat that had separated from the chair base. There was no alarm clock and no instructions on how to get a wake-up call by using the phone.Continental breakfast, served from 7am to 10 am, is included in the price of the room. While I do not need a big spread for breakfast I appreciate a balanced meal. Breakfast consisted of bread and jam and a choice of cold cereals with milk. We also had our choice of coffee or tea. There was no protein, either cheese or meat, and no fruit provided. Definitely not a great start to the day.Luckily our stay was to be short-lived. The day we checked in we talked with the head of Canada’s delegation. She contacted the Canadian mission to the U.N. and they found us hotel rooms in a much better hotel. After breakfast we headed over to the Royal Manotel to check in. We then headed back to the Hotel Windsor, packed up and checked out. I was never so happy to leave a hotel. If you need a centrally-located hotel at a moderate price, I would recommend the family-run Hotel Montana. My colleague who refused to stay at the Hotel Windsor usually stays at the Montana and checked in there instead. Another option is the Hotel Drake which can be booked, apparently, for about 100 Swiss francs if you book a few months in advance.

I stayed in this hotel only one night, but for me this was the biggest mistake I've ever made. The rooms were awful. The beds very old, the bathrooms... I didn't take a shower. Please don't go to this hotel, better sleep near the lake!!!

horrible hotel

We stayed at Windsor in the beginning of July two years ago and it was a nightmare.
We should've gotten the hint when we first saw the elevator, which could barely fit one person and one luggage at a time.
The beds were uncomfortable and lumpy. The bathroom was tiny and gross. It was so noisy that we couldn't sleep. None of the noise from the street could be blocked out. We tried closing the windows, but because there was no a/c, we felt like we were suffocating.
We barely got any sleep and were so cranky the next morning that we just got up and started calling other hotels around to see if they had any rooms available. Checking out early was also a hassle. The staff wasn't very helpful. We ended up going to the Noga Hilton (amazing hotel) which cost much much more, but it was worth it. We were willing to pay for the comfort after a hellish night at Windsor.

This is a great hotel for the price

I stayed in this Hotel in early August. You really get for your price. It is extremely central and in the active part of geneva (though becoming quite noisy), it is clean and the people were friendly and helpful in accomodating our particular needs. The Hotel de Berne in front is much more expensive, but it has air conditioning. I understand that the Windsor is also going to have a/c in certain rooms, and will even have some suites. Frankly for the price I recommend warmly this Hotel in Geneva downtown.

Worst Hotel I have ever stayed....

Please take this hotel off your suggestion list before anyone else ruins their vacation in Geneva like us. The building is so old that it should be knocked down immediately! There is no AC. The streets are dirty and very very noisy, we could not sleep at night because of the singing from the club and when we finally fell asleep, the street cars were making loud noises when sweeping the streets. The hotel is very bad at sound proofing themselves from the streets let alone from room to room. The room feels like 100 years and plus old. I did not even want to use the bathroom at all! We felt that Geneva was such a poor place because of this lousy hotel. It was a horrible experience. Never go to this hotel,it is a traveler's nightmare. We checked in to the hotel directly across the street from it the night before we left(judging by bus loads of Japanese tourists coming out of that hotel, we thought it should not be too bad)It was heaven and earth! Hotel de Bern I think it is called. A very new and updated hotel with very friendly service. And it is the same price as Hotel Windsor. Hotel de Bern is where I would recommend people to stay in Geneva.

Hotel Windsor - Geneva, Switzerland

I am shocked that you recommend this hotel at all, much less list it as a "popular" hotel. Did you actually look at it? The hotel is a dump. Our room had mildew in the shower, a hole in the bathroom wall, a big stain on the rug, paper thin walls, stank of disinfectent, and the water dripped. It looked like it had received little or no maintenance in years. The street was loud, dirty and ugly. Parking was three long blocks away at the railroad station. In comparison, we stayed in two other hotels of the same class, in Lugano and Zurich, and they were comfortable and well maintained; so it was not just the class of the hotel. This hotel does not deserve even one checkmark.
