Hats off to the designer. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The staff was real nice too. I brought my two year old grandson with us and the staff doated on him. We were very confortable we ate outside the hotel at a BBQ place called "JIM and Nicks" ...excellent. We did not have to use the valet parking. We used the parking garage next door for $4 dollars. The room was so very nicely decorated I did not fell like I was in a hotel. If you can get the King Suite. The colors and decor give it a very chic appearance. The central location is very nice. The decor of the entire hotel is very nice and have bohemian yet chic atmosphere. The view of the downtown area at night is beautiful and the central location makes getting around very easy. The down side is parking. I don't think as a Hotel Guest i should be expected to pay $18 a day to have valet parking by the Hotel. There is parking along the streets at the meters which depending on the time of day or evening may be free. However, because of the nightlife in the area parking on the weekends can be difficult. There is a garage for $4 a day which isn't bad. But most hotels provide guest parking for their guests at no cost or at a more reasonable rate than what the Highlands charges. My stay was wonderful, the people were great. The continental breakfast offers a variety of food in a comfortable setting. The hotel was in the perfect location in Five Points South, close to everything and just a short drive to the court house. The hotel itself was spectacular. The staff was attentive and friendly, and the room clean and contemporary. I would suggest a more modern telephone. Overall it was great and would recommend to anyone coming to the Birmingham area!
