We did a lot of searching on the internet before choosing this hotel. There's a lot of choice in San Francisco and this combined what we wanted. First was location. We wanted to be in the Union Square area since this was a first visit for our children so it put us in the area we most wanted to be for sight seeing, shopping and restaurants.Second, we wanted a boutique hotel. Not too many rooms, and clean modern looking.Third was price. The hotel website provided a good rate for two rooms so we opted for one deluxe and one suite. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. We were lucky with the weather and even had to use the air conditioning but could also open the large windows to enjoy the smells and sounds of San Francisco in the busy Union Square area. The service from the staff at the hotel were excellent. We arrived early but one room was ready so we were able to use it right away. They showed us around the room and the various amenities - internet, CD player, premium channel and pay movies on the tv. There was room in the mini bar bar for our own drinks. The bathrooms were smallish as most boutique hotel bathrooms seem to be but had luxury products. The beds were very comfortable and lots of room for all of us in the junior suite when we wanted to lounge around together. The hotel restaurant, Cortez, was very good for breakfast. We also enjoyed the complimentary apples and drinks, which varied depending on the time of day. The lemonade was particularly refreshing in the warm afternoon. There is no spa and no fitness centre but we had our own workout routine as we climbed up and down the hills of San Francisco. We would definitely consider returning to this hotel for our next stay in San Francisco.

Nice old world hotel.Neighborhood is a little cheesy.“Good place to stay in San Francisco. Old world architecture, narrow corridors, ample rooms, Sophistication without pretentiousness.”

Me and my fiance stayed at the Adagio

Me and my fiance stayed at the Adagio for a whole week, and we loved it. The staff was very friendly and helpful, they were polite and prompt. We purchased several items in Sanfrancisco that couldn't be taken on the plane, So the front desk sent us boxes and tape and even offered to have it picked up and delivered by Fedex. We had the best bellman and I would personally like to thank David. If the Hotel Adagio continues to have people just like him I will stay there every time. Our room was very clean when we arrived and the front desk people were full of smiles. They even check us in, about 3 to 4 hours early. At the end of our stay they called and found out were our driver was located and gave me items to include in my scrapbook. I really loved the Hotel Adagio, and we are currently setting up reservations to go back this July, after my visit I took it upon myself to join their Joy of Life club, because I know for a fact that if I'm treated like that I will definately return. Thanks for making a great vacation even better!!!!!!!!

For our family of four - two adults and two teens - we searched for a room that offered two queens rather than full size beds and found that at the Adagio. There was a slight mixup - perhaps due to the fact that we called them to price match with an online discount website - that we first got a room with two doubles (although the package was called the Executive Queen/Queen). When I called down the front desk was initially a little rude, but later moved us into a queen room and offered an apology gift. That was classy. Just keep in mind the possible bed switch. The lobby is beautifully decorated as are the rooms - modern design, updated furnishings, down blankets and pillows. The shower head was pathetic. More like an angry garden sprayer rather than soothing rain. The weather was cold and we used the slightly noisy wall heater which warmed the room well. It's a couple of blocks from Union Square - an easy walk. Just three or four doors down are a small grocery store and also a convenience store. The refrigerators are large and the bellman offered to empty it out if we wanted to store more food. The walk to Union square takes you on an obstacle course of pretty assertive homeless people asking for money, but that's downtown life and could be considered part of the whole experience. There is a bar and restaurant off the lobby - we only used it one morning for breakfast - it was fine. Overall we found the hotel clean and quiet, the staff helpful, the atmosphere safe. We would stay again...it was a great price for the location.

The hotel design is very attractive!I just wish the bathtub would have been bigger.“The service was excellent and very friendly! The room was beautifully decorated. The mini bar was quite reasonably priced and had a great selection! The hotel is located right in the heart of the union square area which is full of restaurants and clubs and shopping. It was all wonderful!”

After a lot of Internet research, we chose this hotel for 2 nights during a 1-week visit to SF. While expensive, we stayed here during weeknights at a lower rate, and went other places on the weekend, when rates here were much higher.
Everything about the room, and the entire hotel, was very comfortable. A few minor problems (bath sink did not drain, room staff was too early in the morning), but the comfort outweighed these minor inconveniences. We returned for another night at the tail end of our vacation.
Only possibly real issue were 2 mistakes in room charge billing.
I would recommend that you stay here. But carefully review room charges.

Location.Staff.“Had problems with check in for a group of 8. Even though all names were given at time of first person to check in (me), a few others had a problem getting there room. They had to wait for me to arrive. Not acceptable. My pregnant friend, whose name they had, was told she could not check in. This hotel was just ok. Good location, but average beyond that.”

Great decor and convenient location. No AC but that seems to be par for the course.“Beautiful decor and pleasant staff. We didn't dine in our check out the bar but it seemed bustling. There was no AC in the room, which was a bit of a shock at first. Seems to be the norm for SF. Temperatures don't really require it but the room was stuffy until the windows were opened.”
