All the basics and easy on the budget

I stay at the Hope Hotel for military duty in 1 month blocks each year. It is a decent place, rooms go for less than $50. It is technically off-base, so no special vehicle decals are necessary. The rooms are clean and it is non-smoking. There is no electronic swipe card, you still have to use a key to access your room. But I feel safe, maybe because it's close to the base (Wright Patterson). The workers are nice and the room service is prompt. TV works well and you get standard cable. I haven't had any real complaints. The restaurant (Packy's) is not too shabby. They have a small bar open until 12 on Fri/Sat. The bar has a big screen, but the screen is pretty blurry because it has a poor projector. If they had a high-def it would be a lot better. But I can get a pint for $1.75. You can get 10 wings for 3.50, so that's not too bad either. The waitresses are nice too. In the morning they have a breakfast buffet but it is not included in the room price. It is okay, but the pancakes leave something to be desired. Sometimes they have karaoke on the weekend, but nobody sings because I guess karaoke isn't too big in Dayton, OH. If you don't sing well, there will be drunk-guest snickering to be heard, which ruins the mood because it should be about effort in my humble opinion. They should get a better mic. The beds are clean and the air/heat work well. There is a really small fridge in each room and no microwave. The showers work well, no complaints there. There is no toilet seat on the toilet for some odd reason (I've stayed in multiple rooms so I am in the 'know' that it is standard), so everytime I flush I imagine all the aerosolized particles of toilet water landing all over my toothbrush and inside of my plastic cups. Speaking of toilets, one time the toilet got clogged at 9 PM so I called downstairs and there was a janitor at my door within literally 2 minutes. He was very cordial. Another time, there was an E. coli warning for the entire area and they called me to make sure I knew not to drink the water. But I had already drunk some, luckily I did not get sick. On another note, the elevators are very slow and old sounding (and smelling), so I usually take the stairs. Many times, I see a lot of older folks congregating in the lobby, or the patio, or in some of the conference rooms and they seem to be enjoying themselves. Other times, there may be a wedding and then the bar will be packed with wedding folks. There is plenty of parking; I've never had a problem with noise levels. However, the walls are thin, so, should you happen to get an unruly next-door neighbor then it is certainly possible that you might be subject to all manner of annoying sounds and conversation. Supposedly there is wireless internet throughout, but I've had a difficult time getting it to work. This is a solid 2 star place, so if you're on a budget and just want the basics, I think you'll enjoy the Hope Hotel.
