Orange Lake offers an 18-hole Arnold Palmer-designed championship course, a 27-hole resort course, a lighted nine-hole par 3 walking course, and a 36-hole miniature course perfect for lovers of golf. Blue heron, ducks and many birds fly around here and land, they are all tame and feed from your hand. There are many planned activities and nightly entertainment. It was a haven of tranquility away from the bustle of the parks. For shopping there is a large Publix supermarket nearby, and on highway 192 there are numerous places to eat. Our favorite was the Black Angus steak house. For homesick Brits there is Ramsbottoms fish and chip shop. Just a short hop away from Orange Lake is the I4 to Sea World and Universal Studios. Just off highway 192 is Old Town a unique place with shops that provide good old-fashioned service; the candle shop offers unique gifts. Saturday night is not to be missed in Old Town, they have a vintage car parade you can see all those cars seen in American films of the 1950s and 1960s, with live music and one of those bucking bronco’s to ride. The Red Baron bar a friendly place hanging above the bar is a bi-plane; there is a saltwater taffy shop. A big wheel is at the entrance to the town along with one or two other old-fashioned rides. Top off your trip with a helicopter flight over Kissimmee and the theme parks. The only problem would be if you were in the area for the world famous amusement parks, and your stay was built on park hopping, when to find the time to enjoy the great amenities and activities the resort offers. The resort do a good job of offering exciting packages to the parks and offers transportation for a small fee. RCI actually has a booth at this location, so there are opportunities to actually talk to a RCI rep in person. Orange Lake Country Club and Resort is a nice resort and will be on our revisit list. The lake has paddle boat and jet ski rentals available. The kids really enjoyed the Splash Lagoon. It had an interactive fountain that kept them entertained for quite a while plus a kid's pool, a water slide, and a zero-entry pool for older kids. Near the pool area was one of the poolside grills (both pool areas we visited had a bar/grill on-site) where a cold beer could be found! River Island was not yet open, but we intend to go back when it is (which should be later this year). River Lagoon promises to be even more fun than Splash Lagoon. A shuttle service runs the entire resort every 20 minutes, so big kids can get from place to place without hitching a ride with the adults. There are paths for roller blading, jogging, or walking, and a fitness area with machines. The West Village Pool Complex also has a playground and kid's pool and makes a great place to hang out after checkout and while waiting to head to the airport. The resort is really spectacular and a great time for families.
