Rash, fecal matter on bed, room smokey!

Son is autistic and very sensitive to smoke and chemicals. Called ahead to make sure hotel was smoke free....and that they kept it that way! Explained why it was important to us. Arrived room smelled of smoke. We reported it and they put an ionizer in it while we went to swim since no other rooms were available. We had brought our son's trains to use on the top bunk bed. We lifted up the mattress so he could set them up on the hard surface underneath. UGGHHHH so GROSS! LOTS of fecal matter...you could tell it hadn't been cleaned in a VERY LONG TIME! Smelled horrible! Would have left but with an autistic child...transitions are not something you undertake lightly. He was already excited about the water. We had to bite our tongues and tough it out. Went out on balcony...and all you could smell was smoke....arrghh. Plus there is some sort of factory near-by that smells like acrid sulfur. So you couldn't even go on balcony to catch some fresh air or relax. Husband and son dawdled around in the kiddie pool. I just waded up to my knees. We rinsed off...and within an hour I had a rash on my legs...and our son was covered with a rash! (High bacterial counts I guess...really gross!) I just couldn't bear sleeping on the beds....so we had to leave. We explained our position and we weren't even given our money back!!!!! Stay far, far, far, away from this place!!!!

The location of the hotel was ideal. It was close to many restaurants, shopping and attractions. The hotel itself had a ton to do. It was great for the kids. The water park was lots of fun!

My kids loved it!

We stayed 2 nights at nearby Kalahari and 1 night at Great Wolf and we all agreed that we liked Great Wolf much better. My kids loved their own private "log cabin" with bunkbeds inside our room. Also they loved the water park. It was relaxing for my husband and me because we could talk and read while the children enjoyed the water park. I am looking forward to trying the Great Wolf closer to my home for a long weekend this winter when the weather is bad.

It's really awful

If you like water parks, your best bet is to go somewhere else. If there weather is nice, try Surfin' Safari at nearby Holiday World. If the weather is bad, stay home.

The rooms are about $400/night, the water is cold, and several rides (2 slides and 2 pools) are closed, overcrowding the other rides and pools. There are too many rules, no water socks, no towels outside the water park and the wave pool is really wimpy. There are no dry towels available when the water park closes, room service won't answer the phone and the restaurant staff is too busy socializing to help customers.

They use a new key technology that works only intermittently. I had to go to the front desk twice to get a working "key". They kept telling me the one I had worked just fine (even after they replaced it.)

On top of everything else, you cannot charge things to room if you pay with a debit card.

Great for young children!

This hotel is more designed for younger children, maybe 10 yrs & under. The amenities are overpriced, not a lot to do here for adults.

We always go on a fall trip to Great Bear Lodge and we have never regreted it. The staff is very attentive and helpful. Also, you will have a blast. The park is for the young and the old. They have an area for toddlers, numerous waterslides, and a lazy river, just to name a few things. The trip is a little pricey but I recommend going on a weeknight. They usual have discount prices. Also, the waterpark is free with the room rental. We always get a room with a fireplace to go back and get warm quickly! It is very nice and I highly recommend it!

PROS: Fun and Any Season Visit

I love this place. They have wonderful coupon deals for weekdays. The water park is clean and hardly crowded. Best yet the waterpark is all enclosed. You can go in the middle of winter and be warm and tosty inside. Thay also have an arcade for more fun. The hotel is close to shopping and highways. It is only an hour away from cleveland and toledo.

Wonderful service. Great staff, attention to detail. Reasonable prices. A place that you do not mind going back to many times. Something for everyone in the family. Great toddler area! Great check-out. Even though check-out is 11 a.m. you are allowed to use the water park until they close at 10 p.pm. Substantial discounts at times for being a repeat visitor. Ideal place to visit when the weather is not accomidating to other activities.
