This nine hole course right by the Grand Hotel is a lot of fun. Since it is only nine holes, you can get around it fairly quickly. The views are spectacular. You get a close up view of the Grand and the Governor's Mansion. The view of the Waterfront is memorable. Take along a camera. The course is in good shape too.

The Grand Hotel is a very classy place to stay. The staff makes you feel like you are a queen or king. It's a bit pricey, but worth for the service you get there.

Our favorite getaway

The Grand Hotel on Makcinac Island is a staple for any Michiganian. Everyone grew up with the Grand in their memories but not all are lucky enough to stay under her roof for a vacation. If you truly have an appreciation for the grandeur of yesteryear you will love the Grand. Those wanting a modern, snappy hotel wiith a pace to match our 2009 schedules should not try a visit here. History prevails at the Grand Hotel. The service is old school - attentive and with expectations. You dress throughout the hotel after 6 pm - a lovely touch. High tea in the lobby at 2 pm - elegant and well done. Pull up one of the 100 rocking chairs on the beautiful ffront porch and read, rest or cocktail. The view is incredible. Tour the hotel - all floors - and enjoy the history. Croquet or bocci on the front lawn, swim and spa - it is all here. We love the Grand for many reasons. Those with an appreciation of old elegance will do the same.

Definitely Grand!

The Grand Hotel is absolutely stunning! It is a beautiful place overlooking the water. The pool area is great and the golf course is also nice. I would just be sure to bring lots of fancy clothes because they are very strict about what you wear. The rooms are all different and is really luck of the draw on what room you get. We came for a conference and some people absolutely loved their rooms while most weren't as happy. The main dining room has an amazing buffet breakfast and a really good kids buffet for supper but the lunch buffet is not worth the money. Overall the Grand Hotel is very elegant and worth the stay!

One of the best hotels in the world!

It's a wonderful hotel with fantastic views. I've been coming there for years and I'm still impressed with the hotel. They have a lot to offer like cycling, golf, tennis, swimming, horseback riding, and more. They have great restaurants, cafes, and bars.

20 year veteran

The Grand is simply put "Grand". As with any large resort, problems can crop up, but this resort has always, and I mean, always been accommodating. A simple call to the management office has always solved any problems we've ever encountered. They are so great that if we book a catagory II room, and they have space in a III, they will upgrade us free of charge for being loyal guests. Once we were even upgraded to a two bedroom suite.
We've gotten to know so many of the staff in the dining room and have talked to them at length. Most all of them love working at the Grand and living on the island. On the Jamaican independence day, they have a huge party after work, and the final song of that evening in the dining room is the Jamaican national anthem, where all the staff sings at the tops of their lungs. They love to talk of their country and families, and enjoy getting to know yours.
The food at times can be unusual, but there is always something for everyone, and the kids buffet is great. The music during dinner is fabulous, and Alex Graham is the best!!
Many people are just not used to staying in a luxurious resort, where people are held to a higher level of etiquette. If Walmart is your place to shop, the Grand is not your place to stay. Stay back at Mackinac City at the Holiday Inn.

Luxury Upgrade given us for lesser price

I recently spent one night with my daughter, son and granddaughter. We were upgraded from one room with 2 dbl. beds to the HUGE Milliken Suite with 3 rooms incl. a 30 foot semi-circular parlor. We were amazed at the space, the luxury and fine furnishings. The dinner was fantastic, all the facilities top grade. It was like living in the gracious 1800's with the "clip-clop" of horses
in our ears. Yes, expensive; but WE got much more than expected with our upgrade. They treat everyone so graciously there. Would recommend it to anyone with a desire for a touch of the "grand".

A memory to cherish-

My only regret is that we did not come here sooner. The Grand Hotel is an experience we will never forget. The attention to details is amazing, the pristine beauty is unforgetable, the staff are professional, warm, and take care of your every need, the rooms are lovely, and the views are fantastic. It was not just a vacation-it was a moment in time that will stay with us forever.

Worst Service

We have stayed at the Grand Hotel over the past 10 years and never experienced this bad of service. Even had planned to stay there in July, but are now booking other plans. It started with receiving our luggage in two different groupings an hour apart. Then went to the Jockey Club for lunch to endure a 40 minute wait. Ok, so they were busy..but went to the Gate House to see if that would be different and waited 30 minutes..walked downtown to which we were served within 15 minutes including snacks at one of the local restaurants. The next morning closed the deal when it took 40 minutes to get coffee and order taken in the grand dining room. We have stayed at 3-5 Star Hotels around the world, but never came across this bad of service even if their staffing was down. I've been a great fan of the Grand and my family has grown up going their, but after this last experience it has lost our confidence in ability to service our basic needs.

the entire island is back to basic with the class of the art deco period. Also no gasoline motors are allowed on the island, everything is so fresh. Family time is really getting to know each other.
