Four Star! I Don't Think So

We stayed at the Doreta Beach for 2 weeks July/Aug 08
We had 2 teenage boys & it is the first time on A/I hol that we have had to spend so much money within the hotel. There was no free entertainment suitable for our party.EG even had to pay 3Euro for table tennis bats. The boys alone got through 500 Euros between them & this did not include excursions nor gifts.
Apparently there are some 4star rooms which have been refurbished on 2 floors of the main hotel but unfortunately we didn't find this out until a good way through our stay or we would have insisted on being moved into one of these. We were in a duplex which was so antiquated & tatty that I would not even rated it a 2 Star! It took 7 days of begging to get a a fan (AC made plenty of noise but nothing else!) we eventually got a fan when eldest boy had to start using his inhaler & was coughing uo brown dust! Unfortunately the fan we got must have been borrowed from the Ark. the bath had almost no enamel left on it & the shower shot out 3 spouts of water, there was a leak from the toilet, but they sorted that by placing the toilet brush holder strategically to catch it! Must say Bar staff,Cleaners, restaurant workers were smashing & the fact that we met so many super guests made that part of our holiday enjoyable. The resort of Tholos is probably the one with the least to do or see on the whole of Rhodes. We would never go back to Tholos but this was our second visit to Rhodes & still consider it a beautiful Island

Where is Doreat Beach Hotel and does it exsist?

Never got to see the place. After arriving at Rhodes airport was informed that the Doreta Beach was over booked (yet again) and was sent to the Princess Sun Hotel in Kiatari (other side over island 10 miles south of Lindos). When I arrived at the Princess Sun there was approx 9 other families that were in the same position as myself. It seems over booking at the Doreta Beach is the norm, they then offered two trips as compensation DON'T TAKE THEM, I was picked up at 8.30am in Kiatari taken to Lindos where I was left in a road side cafe until 11.30(which you are not told about) eventually you are picked up by the tour bus, but unknown to you they have already visited Rhodes Town. On the return journey you are stranded again where you have to sit on the bus at the side of the road waiting for another bus that happens to be going in your direction, again no time is given for this waite. If you'r lucky you will get to see 3 things, (a 10 minute stop to see a castle ruin, a 15 minute stop at a winery and a 30 minute stop at the Butterfly Valley.) I arrived back at the Princess Sun at 8.50pm. Needless to say I did not go on the second trip.

Maybe visit hotel again if a complete refurbishmen

On arrival the hotel was a massive dissapointment. The hotel looks shabby, old and looks in need of a huge re-vamp. Painted blue & pink we felt like we were arriving on the sea front in blackpool(obviously they must have had paint left over from the inside the hotel!)

Checked into our room absolutely fine. The room were clean but very basic (definitley missing a kettle though), bedding changed daily.

Food - considering it's supposed to be a 4*, not brilliant most the food served was the same daily and therefore was a dissapointment. School dinners comes to mind.

Staff - absolutely rude. no table service offered, no manners, and basically couldn't wait for the season to end. NOT friendly at all.

Beach - ok apart from flies oh and straigh dogs, they were a nuissance and should not be allowed as there are lots of kiddies about! water looked very dirty.

Swimming pool - very large, nice, but one thing we never saw anybody doing was cleaning it which put us off going in it really as the dogs drank out of it aswell!!

Poolside bar - good service from here, sometimes hard to get served (as anywhere in the hotel).

Hotel overall - 4*? no. i think they seriously need to review there star rating as there are better standards in some cheap b&b's. 1-2* at present!

This holiday was the best holiday i have ever been on. The food was great and there was so much to do!! the pool was gorgeous and the sun was soooo hot!!! wiked for tanning! there are loads of things to get involved with, like water gym (the people who work at the hotel are amazing! they are sooo funny!!!) volleyball, paddle boats, kanoo's, football, tennis, conputers, games room, arcade, banana boats and huge rubber rings pulled by a speed boat. the paddle boats and kanoo's come free with the holiday so there is always something for the kids and adults to do!!! The alcohol is also free untill eleven pm. Which is great for the adults!!!! .... the kids really enjoy them selves, its great for all ages, the people who go there are so friendly and its so easy to make friends, the holiday flies by i will definatly be going there again xxxx i think you should all go there!!! HIGHLY RECOMENDED!!!! xxxxx

NOT A FOUR STAR HOTEL

We have just come back from a weeks all inclusive at the Doreta Beach Hotel which is supposed to be a four star hotel... NO WAY.
Our room was very basic, behind the bed was mouldy.
The bathroom was a nightmare, the bath apart from being very small, had no enamel, so it felt like you were lying on sandpaper and worst of all there was a drain hole in the middle of the bathroom floor which bubbled up every time you emptied the bath.
The air conditioner was a joke, not funny, and you could not open the doors to get some fresh air as the mossies are a complete nightmare, my other half was half eaten alive.
Our waitress suffered from permanent PMT and the rest of the staff from mood swings.
No adult entertainment, nothing to do in the evenings apart from sit in a hot smoke filled room with the same childrens entertainement which after a while drives you insane.
The beach is difficult to walk on and very windy..
Nothing really good to say about the hotel.
Rhodes is a beautiful place especially the other side of the island so if you are thinking of going there, I would strongly recommend you do not stay in this hotel.
