Stayed here for 2 nights, and the room was comfortable enough, however, if there was one downside to the hotel, it is in bad need of a facelift. The elevator isfrightening. The search engine provided me with this hotel when I entered in the words ""jacuzzi tub" and this hotel DOES NOT have jacuzzi tubs, what it DOES have is a sauna room on the top floor. This is not what I wanted, but other than that the room was fine. WARNING, if you are (as I am) a person who drinks bottled water, they DO NOT sell bottled water in their vending machines. And if you ask the night clerk, he will tell you that there is a 24 hour CVS Pharmacy 2 blocks down the road but he mustve not learned how to count as it is 4 blocks 1 way, but it is a nice walk at 3 in the morning!

Okay...um...let's start with the 1973 decor with 3rd world pacific-rim accents in the public areas. Fitness equipment (circa 1982 picked up from Goodwill) was situated conveniently in the elevator lobby on my floor (so you can show off for passersb

Very enjoyable experience

My own stay for two weekend nights at the Days Inn went off wonderfully. To begin, there was a mixup in my reservation, and the desk manager got me a room even though he didn't show me on the reservation list. He even gave me the price I quoted him, lower than their own rates. The front desk cheerfully gave me directions and helped me in any way I asked during my entire stay.

The room itself was very clean, the towels were stocked, the TV and remote were ready. I slept in a quiet room on a firm, comfortable bed. In short, the room was fine.

The location in the heart of Santa Monica is excellent for the price. If all you want is to stay in a clean, quiet room and go about your business or pleasure in Santa Monica and nearby cities, I don't see how you can beat this hotel.

I have read the other reviews on this site and don't understand the negative reviews. I just returned this weekend, October 13, 2008, and I can tell you that as of then, everything worked as advertised. I don't understand how these other people could have had such a negative experience, but apparently they did.

At any rate, I'd go back to this nice hotel in a heartbeat!

Clean, convenient, quiet, safe

My husband and I stayed 2 nights at this Days Inn. For the price the room was clean, the bathroom bigger than the Marriott's, the internet was easy to access. There was plenty of safe parking, staff was courteous, the bed comfortable. It was close to The Getty Art Museum and the Los Angeles County Art Museum and the Santa Monica Pier and beach. Traffic was not bad and there were plenty of places to eat near by. When we called the motel for directions from The Getty, the directions were readily given and correct! I would stay there again. Much cheaper than other motels/hotels in the area.

We were desparate for a room after an emergency drive of 8 hrs. The only place that had a vacancy was this hotel (no wonder). They booked us in the handicap room. The place looked like it had been ransacked. Bed disheveled, drawers pulled out, dirty, stained, etc. More like a room you would see on "lock-up" tv show, than would be $155/night. Key didn't work, $25 extra for a coffee maker or extra towels, I could go on-but why? Avoid if possible.

The staff was very rude. The beds were hard. The part of Santa Monica it is in is not safe. There is little or no security ( windows are not secure, front door, parking area all not secure). There was mold in the grout of the bathroom tile. The paint is peeling off the walls. The beadspreads looked as they have never been washed let alone replaced in 20 or more years.

March 2008, $145 for king non-smoking was expensive for what it was, average compared with the competition. The hotel has seen much better days, with the interior beginning to look worn. The staff were friendly, and the hotel was not a 'scary one' (my wife's definition of some of the lower end competition). Breakfast was included, but very limited and we did not eat there. The location is a coupe of miles from the downtown area, and the parking was included. The rooftop pool was filled with concrete, and there was an interesting location of all the gym equipment along the top floor corridor. Make sure you have all your extras with you as an additional coffee maker was $25, towels not much less (we weren't sure whether this was an outright purchase or not and certainly did not intend to find out!). Recommended only if you are prepared to put up with the worn look and feel, and given that the vast majority of non-premium hotel rooms in Santa Monica are tired, some grungy and mostly expensive. Would not stay again if I could avoid it.

No Complaints

My husband and I were on vacation in Arizona when we decided to swing by Los Angeles so I, a lifelong Marilyn Monroe fan could see her final resting place. We were lucky to get this room as all the other motels in Santa Monica had no vacancy, save a couple of the seedy ones. We paid 177.00, more than I ever thought I'd pay for a Days Inn room! However, it was very nice and very clean. It was cool enough outside to keep the windows open, and I listened to the traffic going down Santa Monica Blvd, just enjoying being in the town I had dreamed of visiting for so many years. Would definitely stay at this Days Inn again.
