Pleasently Suprised

I was a little concerned after reading some of the reviews, but we just needed a place to stay the night and didn't want to spend too much. The room was really big, and everything was super clean. The beds weren't fancy, but they were comfortable and the gentleman at the front dest was really nice. The breakfast was average continental which was fine. The location is great and the grounds were really pretty and well kept. I would totally stay here again, even if I was spending more time. Don't get me wrong, it's no four seasons, but if you're looking for something inexpensive, this is the spot.

The clerk was really nice and easy to talk to.The role bed was not comfortable, springs were hurting went through the bed.“When we came in, there were limited space for parking. The room was crowded but enough to move around in. The TV was not working properly, the screen was mostly red. I did try to fix it using the Tint, Color, etc. but it still would work. The door lock was not working properly and would open if you just push it from the outside, which was pretty scary. The four of us had to share one bed and a role bed due to limited rooms. The bathrooms look as if they just renovated it, looks nice. I've stayed at other 2 star hotel/inn in the past and this the worse I've been in.”

Nice room style/comfort for star rating.Cramped room.“The room, a queen, was relatively nice for the level of hotel, clean and comfortable. However, it was a little costly for a room at that level, cramped. A lot in a little space. Not a lot of parking, which was a little inconvenient.”

The location was good.Very small room that smelled horrible due to cooking in manager suite below.“This hotel was atrocious. The manager suite below was loud and the very strong smell from their Indian cooking permeated in the room for the duration of the stay. There was barely room for the rollaway (and only after we moved furniture). The hotel was very loud, the shower very dirty. The TV did not work well. Overall, atrocious experience.”

Bathroom sink would not drain; reported

Bathroom sink would not drain; reported to management on first sign of problem--three days later it still was not functioning; lights either were difficult to use or non functional. Extreme difficulty using ironing board and iron due to lack a convenient plug-in. Plu-in by sink was NOT an IMF which is required by code. No telephone book in room; only one ash tray (we both smoke) Staff has difficullty with English language; cramped room; wierd shower control; slippery tub shower; grossly over-priced for condition, especially on weekends. No where to park or manuever in lot;; clumsy stariway to secend floor room.

Convenient area, not too hard to get to or leave from.Broken deadbolt on door (but chain lock was present) and broken vertical blinds that did not close fully.“Squeaky floor and thin walls, but not too much traffic noise. Ample off-street parking. Within a couple of driving miles to all the major Monterey attractions. Maps provided of the area, as well as many brochures for attractions and things to do.”

Lots of room to move around. Liked the kitchenette. No toiletries, sheets weren't white. Looked a bit stained.“We came in late, were tired and went right to bed. Worked out fine. Little amenities but that we did get them if we asked for them at the front desk. The staff was courteous.”

The value for cost was negligible. The luxurious Hyatt, 1 mile away, on a golf course, was available for the same room rate. I took my chances; bad gamble. Construction should have reduced rates; noisy and an eyesore. Parking is insufficient. Breakfast contains cheap bulk-purchsed carbs; no protein. Ridiculous. There are 4,000 rooms in Monterey; any one would be a better value than this. At least the wireless worked most of the time. This motel is just that; a very old cheap motel. Keep looking.
